OFW SURVEY

A. Do the following task:

Find a migrant relative or somebody you know to be interviewed online (either video or
message only).

Use the following guide questions (you may also add some details or questions):

1. Where they migrated or are working?

I interviewed my High School Best Friend who is currently living and

having a part time job in Japan.

2. How long they have been there?

She’s been there for about 4 years now after we completed in Grade 10
and continue her studies through online until we graduated in Senior High
School.

3. What is their most unforgettable experience being there?

She says the most memorable experience she had while she was there
was when her family was infected with Covid-19, which she says she will never
forget because they were quarantined in different hotels, which she says made
her bored and worried for them all, but thanks to Allah, they are now survivors
and can resume their normal lives.

4. How do they describe them (ref. to Q3), good or bad?

It was a bad experience for all of them, but it taught them a valuable
lesson, she says. And they've learnt a lot about being more cautious in these
times, because the Covid-19 now has a number of variants, and Japan is
tightening its grip on its citizens as the Olympics approach.
5. What change/s are they experiencing? (Emotionally and financially).

As she stated, it taught them a great lesson and they've learned a lot
about being more cautious in these times. They are financially secure because
everyone has a work there, yet they are emotionally concerned because their
father has a condition that requires treatment.

6. How will they compare the Philippines with other countries?

She says that it is tough not only here in the Philippines, but also there,
because they have left their two siblings here. And the climate and workplace
environment are completely different and the job salary is low here in the
Philippines compared in Japan.

B. Reflection:

Would you consider yourself migrating to another country? Why or why not?

To be honest, I also want to live in Japan, where it is my big dream to live and work
there, Since Japan is a developed country, working there might help me reach my
dreams, and I hope to take every opportunity to fulfill these dreams in the near future.
