Synchronous and Asynchronous e-learning

Learning made easier through synchronous and asynchronous learning. Synchronous is a type
of online learning where students engage in learning activities at the same time. While
asynchronous is online learning where student can access course materials and complete
assignments at their own pace and schedule.
Synchronous and asynchronous learning have a lot of benefits. Synchronous learning has real-
time interaction and engagement with lecturers and students. As researchers Chen and Wang
(2012) noted, synchronous e-learning provides a space for immediate feedback and clarification
of doubts. Furthermore, this facilitates a sense of community. On the other hand, asynchronous
learning is flexible in scheduling and pace of learning. Asynchronous learning allows students to
manage their time effectively and access course material at their own convenience. However
synchronous and asynchronous learning also have their share of disadvantages, this type of
learning may face technical issues such as poor internet connection, limited access to
necessary technology. These issues can disrupt the learning experience and hinder students’
progress (Lee, j., & Choi, H. M., 2018).
Conclusively asynchronous and synchronous learning may have a few problems, nevertheless
this type of learning can be beneficial for the education system at large, in cases of a pandemic
outbreak.
