PIPELINE INTEGRITY

MANAGEMENT
Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) is the software system used
to manage the pipeline integrity data. The main objectives of PIMS are
safety and reliability of pipelines, preventing incidents and maintaining
operation license.

OBJECTIVES :
Aims at prevention of metal loss due to external and internal
corrosion and disastrous failures endangering public safety,
environment and financial & reputation loss.
Evaluate the risk associated with natural gas and LPG
pipelines and effectively allocate resources for prevention
and detection of corrosion and mitigation activities.
Improve the safety and integrity of pipelines to protect the
personnel, property, public and environment.
To streamline effective operations to minimize the
probability of pipeline failure.

IMPORTANT OF PIMS :
Pipeline owners/operators need a pipeline integrity management
solution which is able to store and integrate critical data about the
pipeline route, materials, facilities, operations, inspections, repairs and
modifications to be able to align different types of data from different
sources.
To improve public confidence in pipeline safety.
To improve operator management, analytical, and operational processes
to manage pipeline integrity.
To increase the government’s role in the oversight of operator integrity
management programs and activities.
To perform integrity assessments of pipelines in locations where a
pipeline leak or failure could have significant adverse consequences
(referred to as High Consequence Areas or HCAs).

Rules and Regulations of PIMS :

ASME B 31.8S :Managing System Integrity of Gas Pipelines
PNGRB (Integrity Management System for Natural Gas
Pipelines), Regulations 2012
PNGRB (Integrity Management System for City Gas
Distribution Netowrk), Regulations 2013
PNGRB (Integrity Management System for Petroleum
Product and Petroleum Product Pipelines), Regulations
NACE SP 0502-2010 ECDA
OISD 226
IMS

Application of PIMS :

Application for oil , gas, chemicals or water transport.
