unbalanced force acting upon it. This is stated in
A. Newton’s Third Law of Motion
B. Newton’s Second Law of Motion
C. Newton’s First Law of Motion
D. None of the above

II. Problem Solving. Solve for the following problems. Show your
solution in proper order.

1. The velocity of a particle is given by v = 25t^2 – 80t – 200.

Evaluate the velocity when the acceleration is zero.

2. The position of a particle is given by S = 2t^3 – 30t^2 + 100t –

50, where s is in meters and t is in seconds. Determine the time at
which the velocity is zero.

3. A car travels along a horizontal curved road that has a radius of

600m. If the speed is uniformly increased at a rate of 2000km/h^2,
determine the magnitude of the acceleration at the instant the speed
of the car is 60km/h.

4. The acceleration of a particle is given by a = 2t – 10 where a is

in meters per second squared and t is in seconds. Determine the
velocity and displacement as functions of time. The initial
displacement at t = 0 is s0 = -4m, and the initial velocity is v 0 =
3m/s.

5. A sprinter reaches his maximum speed vmax in 2.5 seconds from rest
with constant acceleration. He then maintains that speed and finishes
the 100 yards in the overall time of 9.6 seconds. Determine his
maximum speed vmax.

6. State the Newton’s Law of motion.

7. For the 1500 kg rock, determine (a) its weight in Newton, (b) mass
in slugs, and (c) its weight in pound-force.

8. A 40N force is applied to a 20 kg block resting on a frictionless

table. Find the acceleration. Referring to item no. 4, place the 20 kg
mass (with no external force applied) on frictionless 50 degrees
incline plane. What is the acceleration of the mass?
