FOOD
OVERVIEW
This written report contains the definition and history of the food. In addition, it also contains
the evolution of the food. Furthermore, it includes the evolution of food in the Philippines, and how it is
related to the Popular Culture.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
But before the advent of wheat or rice noodles, one of the first kinds ever
documented in the country—and the world—was a bowl of 4000-year-
old millet noodles discovered at the Lajia archaeological site along the
Yellow River.
In western Europe, medieval cuisine (5th-15th century) did not change rapidly.
Cereals remained the most important staple during the early Middle ages. Barley, oats and rye were
eaten by the poor. In ancient Rome, differences in social standings affected the diet. For people of
all socioeconomic classes, breakfast and lunch were typically light meals that were often consumed
in taverns and cafes. However, dinners were eaten at home and were taken much more seriously.
Wealthy senators and landowners ate meals and multiple courses, including appetizers, entrees,
and desserts. Rich Romans also held extravagant dinner parties, where guest dined in exotic foods,
such as roasted ostrich or pheasant. In contrast, people of the lower classes ate mostly bread and

Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant
or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins,
