INSECT COLLECTION REPORT CARRIED OUT IN CAVM’S FARM ON 04TH/12/2023

Collection of insects was conducted with regard of getting numerous species of insects to be kept
for research case study in accordance of insect families as well as their orders. Active collection
method was used where insects were directly collected and stored in the bottle as apparatus.

The insects obtained were:

o Grasshopper (Schistocerca americana)

o Oriental latrine fly (Chrysomya megacephala)

o Horned sea star (Acantecphala terminalis)

o Bee (Apis mellifera)

o Wasp (Vespula vulgaris)

o White butterfly (aporia crataegi)

o Tiger moth (Lycomorpha phorus)

o Weevil (Sitophilus orzae)

o Slender spiny ant (Polyrhachis gracilior)

After collection insects were treated under alcohol as a mean of maintenance to prevent bacterial
attack thus the bottle was pinned to provide holes which may allow entry of air.

At the next day insects were removed from the bottle and get pinned to the cardboard by the use
of paper and pins as it is shown below figure which clearly shows each taxonomic class of each
type of insect obtained.

So, as conclusion insect collection brings a lot of beneficial skills where we obtained numerous
orders of insect as well as their types not only that but also, we face some challenges which restrict
us to find some insects. Most of them was that some insects are seasonal and it was not its specific
season, many insects exhibit wide ranges of habits where it can be difficult to identify them due to
low level of expertise and insufficient tools.
