c The College of Europe, established on the initiative of the Hague Congress, dates back to
o 1949 and is the oldest postgraduate institute of European studies. The founding idea was to
l
establish an institute where university graduates from many different European countries
l
could study and live together in preparation for careers related to European cooperation
e
g
and integration.

OBJECTIVES AND FEATURES
adventure to be lived
Study Trips are a unique element of the Academic Offer of the College of Europe in Natolin.
They provide invaluable field experience of studied themes and acquaint students with the
c cultural and historical heritage of visited countries, while allowing them also to benefit from
o encounters with academics and practitioners, journalists, NGO representatives, civil society
l
members and local policymakers directly involved in issues on the ground.
l
e
g
Although the Study Trips are largely academic in character – devoting much of the schedule
e to lectures, debates, and conferences – they also incorporate cultural exposure and commu-
nity bonding elements of equal value. Students interact with local communities, visit local
o landmarks, and experience local customs over the trips – which take place early in the first
f semester and midway through the second semester of studies.
