TAMUC HHPK 324 Presentation #2

Week 13) Submit 5 healthy at home activities that a parent can do with their
elementary child. Explain each activity, materials or equipment needed & purpose
of the activity.
One of the best ways to help your toddler and older kids eat more fruits and vegetables
is to pack them into smoothies. Unlike juicing, blending fruits and vegetables into a
smoothie retains the whole food, which leaves the fiber intact. Kids can get vitamins,
minerals, protein, and fiber from a smoothie. The equipment/materials needed are a
blender, ice, water or milk, fruits and vegetables of choice.

Have your child choose a healthy snack to make together. This helps kids develop
planning and decision-making skills, offers an activity that includes the entire family
and results in a healthy, nutritious snack for all to enjoy. Some ideas include: Apple
slices or banana with peanut butter. Low-fat cheese and fruit kabobs on popsicle
sticks.

Healthy frozen treat options at home is a great way to have a

hydrating, sweet dessert without all the added sugar. Healthy
homemade popsicles are made up of wholesome ingredients (and even
veggies)! The equipment/materials needed are popsicle molds, fruit (fresh or
frozen), sweetener (maple syrup, honey), yogurt or liquid.
Scavenger hunts can be done just about anywhere, they also boost observation
skills and help children develop early learning skills in a fun, relaxed, and natural
way. Plus, it's just so much more fun to hunt for the color red, the letter E, and an
octagon than it is to fill in a paper about them!

Dance for kids is an excellent way to improve their coordination, balance, and motor
skills. For children, it's a more active way to have fun outdoors and stay physically fit.
All you need is music and your best dance moves!
