Disaster Recovery Planning

1. It is important to develop an IT Disaster Recovery Plan so as to minimize the company’s loss and
in order to facilitate an easy and systematic recovery after a disaster.

2. The company must hire experts to plan and execute complete data back ups. This would ensure
that the company may still have access to all of the important data should any disaster occur.
The company must also employ the use of the different data loss prevention tools that are
available.

3. Prevention is better than cure applies for this. Regular maintenance and must be done in order
to ensure that the server and all its components, physical and otherwise, are working properly.
Also, software must be made sure to be installed properly and are updated accordingly.

4. Server operating system is important in enabling and facilitating the typical server roles. It
manages the computer’s resources, establish the user interface, and execute and provide
services for applications software. If not monitored and maintained properly, the operating
system may incur problems that may cause a server failure and, ultimately, a loss for the
company.

5. A.) Fire preventive measures can be integrated in the infrastructure design. Calcium silicate and
gypsum boards must be promoted to slow down fire. Bricks and concrete must be the
major/fundamental material used in buildings. Fire alarms, smoke detectors, heat sensors must
be installed in order to quickly notify employees of possible fire. Emergency exits must be easily
accessible and emergency exit maps must be posted in places that are easily seen in order for
the employees to evacuate to safety.

B.) The structure of the building must be earthquake proof or must at least adhere to the
standards set for infrastructures to withstand and minimize damages from earthquakes. FEMA,
NEHRP and other institutions concerning earthquake disaster management must be consulted
along with the proper engineers when building an infrastructure.

C.) Infrastructures must be built with material that are weather proof to avoid fast deterioration
due to the weather. They must also be built on proper locations, and with sufficient altitude to
avoid flooding. Evacuation plans must also be considered in choosing the location.

D.) Implementing proper security systems is a must to avoid theft. The presence of security
personnel and the installation of burglar alarms are quite helpful in deterring theft incidents.
