Consider the scenario(s) given below and discuss how you would manage the group.

Scenario How to manage the group

1. Your learners have formed very distinct

sub-groups and are resistant to working -random selection of attendee
with others when you try to split them up -state in house rules that each must participate
to create different groups for certain for grading
activities. -explain importance of grouping

2. You have a group within a group whose

members are silent throughout most of the
session and don’t take part in group
-rotation presenter
discussions. If you split them into smaller
-partner with more active participant
groups, one or two carry out the task
while the others watch.

3. You have a practical session and personal

protective equipment is required. Two of -Strict implementation of house rules NO PPE
the group repeatedly turn up without this NO practical session
equipment, and insist that other teachers -site practical scenario/consequence of not
allow them to participate in practical wearing PPE
sessions without it.

4. You have a group of adult learners, most

-Ground rules state the objective and expected
of whom are friends and tend to talk about
outcomes of the course
life outside the course rather than getting
-I would ask the learner to set aside his
on with tasks set during the day. Others in
experiences and adventures and will tend to it
the group find this frustrating.
