Setting up Multi Factor

Authentication (MFA)
on your SBS Account
MFA Instructions

Once MFA has been activated on your account, you will receive the notification “More information required”
when you next try to access your Office 365 account via a web browser, or through an email application such
as Outlook.

You can then select if you want to use a text message notification or the Microsoft Authenticator App for
iPhone & Android.

TEXT MESSAGE OPTION:

1.) Enter your phone number (And select country code from drop-down) and then select the “Send me
a code by text message” option.
2.) You will then be sent a verification code to your mobile. Enter the code to verify connection.

MICROSOFT AUTHENTICATOR APP OPTION:

1.) Select the Mobile app from the drop-down and click the “Receive notifications for verification”

option.
2.) Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store (for iPhone) or the Play Store (for
Android):

(Please note, notifications must be enabled for the app to work correctly. You will be prompted to enable
notifications when the app is installed).

3.) Open the App and click on the + at the top right to add an account.

4.) Select “Work or school account”.

5.) Select Scan QR code.

6.) As a final confirmation, you will be asked to approve a test authentication. Depending upon the
method chosen you will be sent a text message or prompted to authenticate via the app.
Changing your registered Authentication method:

1.) Log into https://portal.office.com and click on your name icon at the top right of the screen. Then
select the “View Account” option.

2.) Within the account details screen you should see a “Security info” tile. Select this.
3.) You can then change the “Default sign-in method” by clicking the link and then selecting the method
from the presented drop down.

(If the Authenticator app option is not showing for you then Cancel that screen and select “+ Add method”
from the previous screen.)
