This worksheet involves solving questions by using the order of

operations.

This is BEDMAS: Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication,

Addition and Subtraction

Section 1

Solve the following equations using the order of operations (BEDMAS).

For example:
7-6+2x3 Step 1: 2 x 3 Solve the multiplication first.
Step 2: 7 - 6 + 6 Rewrite the equation.
Next, solve the subtraction part of the equation
(because it comes first).
Step 3: 1 + 6 Rewrite the equation and solve.
Answer is 7

Algebra: Order of Operations
Section 2
Solve the following equations using the order of operations, involving brackets.
For example:
(15 - 7) x 2 + 3 Step 1: (15 - 7) = 8 Solve the brackets first
Step 2: 8 x 2 + 3 Rewrite the equation.
Solve the multiplication next.
Step 3: 16 + 3 Rewrite the equation and solve.

Answer is 9

Question Working/Answer

Algebra: Order of Operations
Section 3

Insert the missing brackets in the correct place to get the answer.
For example:
8 + 2 x 5 = 50 Step 1: If you add 8 and 2 it equals 10
Step 2: 10 x 5 = 50
Step 3: The brackets will go around 8 + 2
Rewrite: (8 + 2) x 5 = 50

Question Working/Answer

4 + 8 x 2 = 24

5 x 3 + 4 = 35

1 x 4 + 2 x 6 = 36

12 - 3 ÷ 3 = 3

19 + 11 ÷ 10 = 3

4÷2x3+2=8

18 - 6 ÷ 4 + 2 = 5

4+2x5-3=8

Algebra: Order of Operations

Section 4

Are the questions correct or incorrect? Explain your answers.

For example:
Angus says that 16 - 10 + 3 x 2 = 18. Is he correct?
No, he is not correct because you first have to multiply 3 x 2, then 16 - 10, then 6 + 6.
Answer is 12
