MOTHERBOARD
Good afternoon everyone, first let me introduce my self, my name is Nadya Rahmania
Putri and you can just call me Nadya. Currently, I’m a college student at State Polytechnic of
Semarang, majoring in Electrical Engineering especially Informatics Engineering Study
Program. So, lets move talk about motherboard.
Motherboards can be found in virtually all computers, especially desktop and laptop PCs. The
components that connect through them include chipsets, central processing units (CPU) and
memory. The external peripherals include Wi-Fi, Ethernet and graphics cards with the
graphics processing unit, or GPU.
The motherboard serves as a single platform to connect all of the parts of a computer
together. It connects the CPU, memory, hard drives, optical drives, video card, sound card,
and other ports and expansion cards directly or via cables. (Functionality)
The motherboard is the main component in the computer system that is used for connecting
all the components of the computer system so that they can perform several tasks and
functions in the system. The motherboard is considered as the spine of the system as all
components are connected to a single circuit board for performing their functions. The
motherboard is a costly device and once it gets damaged the user needs to spend a lot of
money to buy a new motherboard for a computer system. The motherboard is a central device
where all devices are get connected and maintain the flow in the computer system.
(Application)
Motherboard manufacturers include Acer, ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte Technology, Intel and
Micro-Star International.
1. AT Motherboard
These motherboards have bigger physical dimensions of hundreds of millimeters and
hence they are not the right fit for the mini desktop category of computers.
2. ATX Motherboard
ATX denotes Advanced technology extended, it was developed by Intel during the
1990s and it was an improved version over an earlier version of AT motherboard.
3. LPX Motherboard
This board had two improvements over earlier versions.
4. BTX Motherboard
BTX denotes Balanced Technology Extended, intended to manage demands of new
technologies in terms of more power requirements hence generation of more heat.
5. Pico BTX motherboard
These boards are smaller in size and hence the word Pico.
6. Mini ITX motherboard
It’s a miniature version of motherboard over its earlier versions.
