    Service Learning Project Part 3: Employer

    Ryan Monago
    Fall 2023

    For the third and final semester, my service installment was Employer based. Our hospital is
    very influential within the Richmond Virginia community. VCU Health has many different
    opportunities to go help the community or hospital through their own efforts. I had many friends
    and coworkers run the Richmond marathon in November. For my service I was a part of our
    VCU Health booth at the marathon. This was separate from the emergency medicine area; our
    main goal was to provide snacks and cheer on the runners at mile 18. I love running but had
    some minor health setbacks this year. I think my goal is to be on the other side of the street next
    year. They call the Richmond marathon the friendliest marathon and I can see why. There are
    endless people giving away food, water, aid and cheering the runners on every step of the way. It
    is very encouraging and inviting for those of all skill levels.
