Muscle groups

All primary Muscles/ Muscle Groups
This presentation will go over 9 of the 13
main muscle groups.

- There are more than 600 muscles in the


body
- There are 13 primary/ main muscle of the
body
- The five major muscle groups are chest,
back, legs, shoulders and the abdominal
muscles
Biceps
Bicep is used for the flexion and
supination of the forearm. Muscle has
2 heads, long and a short head.

“Flexion” is decreasing the angle


between to body parts.

“Supination” is a rotational movement.


Hamstring
The hamstrings flex the knee while
also extending the hips. They consist
of 3 muscles. Biceps femoris,
semitendinosus, semimembranosus.
Calves
The calf muscles are responsible the
plantar flexion of the door and ankle.

Primarily used for running.


Quadriceps
Quadriceps consist of 4 muscles, hint
the name QUADriceps. It consists of
the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis,
vastus intermedius and the vastus
medialis.

Used for extending the leg in walking


and jumping.
Triceps
The triceps have 3 primary heads, a
lateral, medial and posterior head.
They control the extension of the
elbow joint.
Chest
Chest or pectoral muscles control the
addiction of the arms (like a hug). They
work with the back muscles as well as
the deltoid muscles.
Back
The back consist of many muscles but
the major ones are the trapezius,
latissimus dorsi and the deltoids. They
help move your neck, shoulders and
arms.
Glutes
The glutes help stabilize the upper
body and pelvis. They assist and
movement and also help extend the
hip.
Rectus abdominis
muscle
The rectus abdominis or abs help
stabilize our trunk. It supports the rib
cage and pelvis.
