This presentation summarizes 9 of the 13 main muscle groups in the body. It describes the function and makeup of the biceps, hamstrings, calves, quadriceps, triceps, chest, back, glutes, and rectus abdominis muscles. The biceps flex and supinate the forearm. The hamstrings flex the knee and extend the hips, consisting of 3 muscles. The calves are responsible for plantar flexion of the ankle and foot. The quadriceps extend the leg and have 4 muscles. The triceps control elbow extension with 3 heads. The chest controls arm adduction. The back muscles move the neck, shoulders and arms. The glutes stabilize the pelvis and

Andrew Masteller All primary Muscles/ Muscle Groups This presentation will go over 9 of the 13 main muscle groups.
- There are more than 600 muscles in the
body - There are 13 primary/ main muscle of the body - The five major muscle groups are chest, back, legs, shoulders and the abdominal muscles Biceps Bicep is used for the flexion and supination of the forearm. Muscle has 2 heads, long and a short head.
“Flexion” is decreasing the angle
between to body parts.
“Supination” is a rotational movement.
Hamstring The hamstrings flex the knee while also extending the hips. They consist of 3 muscles. Biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus. Calves The calf muscles are responsible the plantar flexion of the door and ankle.
Primarily used for running.
Quadriceps Quadriceps consist of 4 muscles, hint the name QUADriceps. It consists of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius and the vastus medialis.
Used for extending the leg in walking
and jumping. Triceps The triceps have 3 primary heads, a lateral, medial and posterior head. They control the extension of the elbow joint. Chest Chest or pectoral muscles control the addiction of the arms (like a hug). They work with the back muscles as well as the deltoid muscles. Back The back consist of many muscles but the major ones are the trapezius, latissimus dorsi and the deltoids. They help move your neck, shoulders and arms. Glutes The glutes help stabilize the upper body and pelvis. They assist and movement and also help extend the hip. Rectus abdominis muscle The rectus abdominis or abs help stabilize our trunk. It supports the rib cage and pelvis.
