GUIDELINES REGARDING PARTICIPATION IN 109TH INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS AS A

STUDENT VOLUNTEER

It is a matter of great pride to announce that Lovely Professional University shall be hosting the 109th Indian
Science Congress, scheduled to be held from January 3rd to January 7th, 2024.
The Indian Science Congress is organized in collaboration with Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). In this
event about 30,000 scientists from diverse domains as members, meet annually in the first week of January. This
prestigious occasion shall be graced by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi as the Chief
Guest of this magnanimous event.

The Focal Theme for 109th Indian Science Congress is “The Global Perspective on Science and Technology for
Sustainable Future”

Participation in an event of this stature shall leave an indelible mark on the future academic career of the students. As
students of LPU you shall be getting this rare and special opportunity wherein you shall

 Meet and interact with globally renowned scientists even Nobel laureates. During the 106th Indian Science
Congress held at LPU the students got a chance to interact with 3 Nobel laureates.

The Indian Science Congress shall be held in the form of 14 conferences on diverse topics with several sessions in
each conference. In addition, there shall also be several exhibitions, competitions including “Explorica - The Science
Exhibition, Fun Carnival, Food Fiesta etc.

Thus, through these sessions, activities & exhibition, the students shall get an opportunity to gain exposure &
experience regarding the event conduct & its management from the base.

To ensure that the students can be a part of the Indian Science Congress as a Volunteer, certain modifications have been
made in the Academic Calendar of the students described as below:

Please Note: The Datesheet for the End Term Examination for Autumn Term 2023-24 shall be released shortly
and students are required to make travel plans accordingly.

Note: In case in any research dissertation course, Continuous Assessment (CA) component is not applicable, the same
rewards shall be extended in End Term Practical (ETP component).

Attendance benefits and associated requirements:

1. Each student volunteer will be required to perform his/her allocated duty in the Indian Science Congress 2024.
2. On performing all allocated duties, the student shall get attendance equivalent to no. of weekly scheduled
lectures according to programme scheme of 2nd term.
3. E.g., In case a student has 25 weekly lectures according to programme scheme of 2nd term and if he/she
attends all allocated ISC sessions from 3-7 Jan. 2024, will receive attendance credit for 25 lectures as the first
week's attendance and an additional 25 lectures as a first-week bonus for the Spring Term 2023-24, i.e.
he/she shall earn attendance of total -50 lectures by performing his/her allocated duty.
In case, if a student doesn’t attend the allocated duties, his/her 1st week attendance will be 0/25 and he/she will
not be entitled for 1st week bonus of Spring Term, 2023-24. Moreover, at the end of term, during calculation
of final attendance percentage, these 25 lectures shall be added to the denominator (i.e. total no. of lectures
delivered) but this student shall not get any attendance out of 25 in numerator (i.e. total no. of
attended lectures).
E.g. in case a student has “X” number of attended lectures at the end of term and “Y” number of total
delivered lectures. His attendance percentage at the end of term shall be calculated by formula (X*100)/Y.
Case 1: A student has attended all ISC sessions. Then his/her attendance percentage will be calculated as
(X+50) *100)/(Y+25)
Case 2: A student has not attended all ISC sessions. Then his/her attendance percentage will be calculated as
((X+0)*100)/(Y+25).
4. It is reiterated that it is compulsory for the registered and selected students to attend ALL THE Indian
Science Congress duties allocated to him/her. Allocated faculty members/incharge in the duties shall mark
attendance of student volunteers
5. Attendance of the student volunteers shall be considered in the attendance of Spring Term-Session 2023-
24. Absence in any assigned duty shall lead to equivalent absenteeism in attendance record of Spring Term-
Session 2023-24.
Important: Since this event is of high grandiose and eminent personalities shall be gracing this event with their
presence, hence high security shall be maintained during the event. Students will need an online generated "Entry
Pass" to attend the event.
To generate the Entry Pass, compulsory online authentication of student credentials will be required to be done by all
students for which a separate communication shall follow.
