Activity 2 [] 09/11/2023
1. Selection
Choose a target group: The activity is designed for 4-year-old students.

Choose a Vocabulary Theme: The City

Identify Vocabulary Words: school, police station, fire station, hospital, library, zoo,
church, cinema, park, restaurant, shop, museum, bank, post office, airport and
supermarket.

Develop a Variety of Learning Materials:

 Flashcards: 16 cards with the image and name of the city places
 Worksheets: choose and color worksheet
 Games: memory and a bingo
 Map

2. Materials
Flash Cards: This will be the first material we will use, we will show the flashcards to
the children saying the name of the building shown. Once the teacher says the name of
the building shown, the pupils will repeat it to start vocabulary acquisition. The teacher
can also place the flash cards on the white board and engage the children by asking
questions: "What's this?" or "Where is the museum?". Flashcards are a great material
to use in class as they provide visual aids, enhancing vocabulary retention. The images
on the cards help capture students’ attention and make learning enjoyable and fun.
Moreover, using flash cards while asking interactive questions fosters their
engagement and participation. For example:

Map: The map will be created on a large poster which will be placed in the classroom
at the students' height so that they can see it and work on it. It will show the same
images of the buildings and their distribution around the city. The buildings will have
Velcro and the pupils will be able to move and place the buildings anywhere in the city
where there is another piece of Velcro to stick on. Maps also provide a visual
representation of the space and the vocabulary. Students can begin to understand how
a map of a city looks and enhance their spatial awareness. In addition, the map gives
context to the words and makes the learning experience more meaningful. Children
can relate the places to daily experiences, so the vocabulary becomes more relevant
for them.

Bingo: In the classroom we will have a roulette wheel and in it in each fragment we will
have one of the drawings of each building. A student, either voluntarily or the teacher
selecting him/her, will go out and spin the wheel. Once the student stops, he/she will
have to say the name of the building in L2. If he/she says it correctly, the classmates
will be able to cover the drawing with a card on their bingo card if they have one. If the
student has difficulty remembering the name of the building, the teacher or another
classmate can help him/her. Bingo will work as in the original, if a student marks all of
them, they will say bingo and it will be checked to see if it is correct. The bingo game
helps keep children engaged, it adds elements of excitement as it reinforces the

vocabulary in a playful and interactive way. While working on the vocabulary, children
can also promote their listening skills. Example of a Bingo template:

Memory Card Game: This material consists of pairs of cards with matching images
and words of the vocabulary. Students can work in pairs or in small groups, lay the
cards facing down and take turns flipping the cards in order to find the matching pairs.
The teacher can encourage students to say the names of the buildings out loud as they
flip the cards. This type of game fosters memory skills and enhances children’s
concentration. It helps students to associate the images with vocabulary while working
on retention. Also, turn-taking promotes cooperation between students and social skills.

Activity 2 [5] 09/11/2023

Worksheet: For this material, we have created a worksheet with a coloring activity to
ensure the understanding of the vocabulary. Students will have to color the name of the
building that corresponds to the images of the buildings. The teacher should present
the instruction in a clear way and can help guide children throughout the activity,
offering assistance if needed. Worksheets offer students individualized and structured
practices while they also work on their fine motor skills. The worksheet will be:
