Topic: Personal Pressure exerted on the Floor

Aim: To find out if the pressure exerted by a person’s foot exceeds atmospheric pressure.

Apparatus/ Materials: Bathroom scale, graph paper, pencil.

Method:

1. Determine your mass in kg using a bathroom scale.

2. Trace your feet out on a sheet of graph paper and find the area.

3. Record your results in an appropriate format.

Data Analysis:

1. Calculate your weight in Newtons.

2. Calculate the pressure exerted when standing in standard units.

3. Is the pressure bigger or smaller than atmospheric pressure?
