INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL DESIGN

 Visualizes and identifies ½ and ¼ of a whole object.

 To have a broad knowledge and enjoy doing set tasks in showing ½ and ¼ of
something.

IV. Instructional Material Title : “Wheel of Fraction”


V. Materials :
 ½ Illustration Board
 Ruler
 Scissors
 Cutter
 Colored Paper
 Bond Paper
 Stick Glue & Glue gun
 Glue
 Pen touch

VI. Description :

We all know that teaching mathematics in elementary grades helps the students
to understand and engage with the world, from everyday living doing such task like
managing money, knowing the portion of something and solving and analyzing the
problem in a simplest way. It is a fundamental skill that is used in every aspect of life,
developing the learners problem solving and critical thinking skills. Math is the
foundation for many other subjects. We do know that elementary learners are more
engaged in a subject when there is a creative object. With that, we created this
instructional materials that will fully engage and attract the learners to study. This
“Wheel of Fraction” that may be used in various activities and also may integrate to other
subject. Moreover, this instructional material can help the grade 1 learners in learning the
concepts of fraction like knowing the portion of something/part of whole thing.

VII. Procedure :
A. How to Make…
1. Using the illustration board, create a circle. May used a flat circle
objects that can help in creating a circle.
2. Using the scissor and cutter, cut the circle pattern.
3. Use the pen and ruler to equally divide the circle in to 4.
4. Using the 2 colored paper with different colors, create a circle with
same size.
5. Cut the 2 colored paper in the middle.
6. Using a glue, glue the colored paper and stick together. Let it dry.
7. Then, put the other colored paper on top. And pin them all.

B. How to Use…
Kid can explore the wheel fraction with the guidance of the teacher or
facilitator.

Simply, hold the stick downward. Until it reaches the ¼, ½ and 1 whole
portion of the wheel. This wheel may visualizes and identifies ½ and ¼ of a
whole object.

VIII. Variation :
A. The instructional material can also be used as:
1. Can be used as:
 Picture Wheel
 Word Pie
2. Comparing different fractions on a single paper sheet.

B. The IM can also be integrated to other learning competencies as well as other


disciplines:
1. Can be integrated to other grade level and learning competencies of
fractions.
2. Can incorporate to art subject when discussing about the perspective of
shapes and scale of fractions.
