Hera was considered so powerful because she was the wife of Zeus,
the king of the gods. She was also the goddess of women, marriage,
and family. She was feared and respected by all the other gods and
goddesses.

Zeus dethroned his father Cronus because he feared the same


prophecy: one of his children would overthrow him. He tricked
Cronus into vomiting up his siblings, uniting them against their
father and winning the war for power.

Hestia was considered one of the twelve Olympians because she was
the firstborn daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and she held the
important role of tending the hearth fire on Mount Olympus.
Although she later gave up her place to Dionysus, she remained an
important goddess and was still honored among the Olympians.
Zeus: King of the gods, sky, thunder, lightning.
Poseidon: God of the sea, earthquakes, horses.
Hades: God of the underworld, death.
Hestia: Goddess of the hearth, home, family.
Demeter: Goddess of agriculture, harvest, fertility.
Hera: Queen of the gods, women, marriage, family.
Other prominent deities:

Athena: Goddess of wisdom, handicraft, warfare.


Apollo: God of music, poetry, light, healing, prophecy.
Artemis: Goddess of the hunt, wilderness, wild
animals, childbirth.
Ares: God of war, violence.
Hephaestus: God of fire, metalworking, craftsmanship.
Aphrodite: Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure.
Hermes: God of trade, thieves, travelers, sports,
athletes.
