Pharmaceutical Business Plan/proposal

Background:
In health care delivery system community pharmacy is the first and final point of
contact. Pharmacist are health care professionals trained specifically to store, handle
prepare, review prescription and dispense various medications. They ensure that medicines
prescribed to patient are suitable and advice patient on medicines what reaction may occur
and answering patient questions.
Community pharmacy is useful in providing public health sensitization to the public.
According to recent research by PBSL in Sierra Leone most pharmacy premises are owned
by none Professional (because of lack of capital from professional to start their own business)
therefore this has led to poli pharmacy and also the risk of antibiotics resistance. So pharmacy
professional are encouraged to own a pharmacy.

Location/Site: Kabala, Yogimaia

Description of the site

Yogomaia is located in west part of kabala in Sengbeh chiefdom. The predominant
tribes are fula and kuranko. They residents are mostly involved in farming and cattle
rearing.
The community is deprived of lots of amenities and health care is one big challenge,
most times people in that community had to come to the central part of kabala to buy
drugs. Sometimes most of the drugs they need are out of stock so they had to send their
prescription to Free town to get them. The population in that chiefdom is about
120,000.

Goal/Vision
Giving back to my community has been one of my top priorities. Majority of People in
kabala can’t have access to quality drugs or the medication they need. Because
majority or all the pharmacies are owned by non health professionals.
Mostly patients send their prescription to free town to get their prescription refilled,
which sometimes can affect their medication frequency.
Goal;
1. is to offer quality health care to people, by providing affordable drugs and
services.
2. Counsel patients on medication use, and sensitize the public on public health
issues.
3. The pharmacy would be an example to other pharmaceutical outlet in kabala
interns of operations and service health care delivery to patients. Because it is managed
by pharmacy professionals
4. The pharmacy will have stock of all essential medicines and also build
partnerships with other pharmacies in free town to supply drugs that patients may
need.
5. Making sure prescription do not leave kabala because of stockout of drugs.

Registration
The business will be registered at NASSIT and NRA. The business name will be
taking to pharmacy board of Sierra Leone for it to be registered for selling of
pharmaceutical products baby food and cosmetics.
The pharmacy will be selling class A B and C drugs and baby food.

Operation
The pharmacy will run from 8am to 11pm. The pharmacy shall employ 1staffs(Health
professionals )together with the proprietor who will work in the pharmacy.
The pharmacy will have to pay his staffs(Workers) from the sales generated. And
renew its rent and other taxes the following year from sales generated.
In the first month of opening the pharmacy will organize a free screening for hepatitis
and blood pressure check for adult in the community. The items for this campaign will
be sourced from the National Hepatitis Agency. This campaign (operation) will help
create awareness of the pharmacy to the public.
The pharmacy will market it self to the hospital and other clinics around kabala for
them to be sending prescription to the pharmacy on drugs they don’t have.
The pharmacy will also negotiate with NGOs around kabala for their staffs to get first
aid treatment and other medical services as part of the health insurance covered by the
NGO. They will be paying on a monthly basis.
The pharmacy will offer home delivery services to patients who are unable to come to
the pharmacy for conveniency. Delivery fee will be charged.
Proposed Description of the pharmacy
The pharmacy will be inline with the pharmacy board of Sierra Leone plan.
The pharmacy will have an aluminum shelf with a pharmacist office. A dispensary
area an AC, fridge to store vaccines and lights.
The pharmacy will have to run on a Solar power which will ensure constant and
adequate power supply throughout.
