Lesson No. 7

HEREDITY, INHERITANCE AND VARIATION

NAME: KIER JUNE Y. GILLA

COURSE/YEAR: 1-BEED -A YR. 2020-2021

IV. ACTIVITIES

Instruction. Make a research for the following topics (mentioned above) and
answer the

following;

1. Describe how human, plants, and animal reproduce.

* Human reproduction is any form of sexual reproduction resulting in human
fertilization. It typically involves sexual intercourse between a man and a
woman. During sexual intercourse, the interaction between the male and
female reproductive systems results in fertilization of the woman's ovum by the
man's sperm.

A flower can either have the male or female part or both the parts. Flowers in
plants carry out the reproductive functions in plants when both the male and
female gametes are fused to produce the seeds which bear the fruit. These
seeds germinate to produce new plant structures

The reproductive parts in animals produce gametes that fuse and form a zygote.
The zygote develops into a new similar species. ... The female gametes,
produced by ovary, are known as ova (or eggs). In the process of reproduction,
the first step is the fusion of a sperm and an ovum (egg).

2. What are the observed characteristics (Phenotype) that can be passed from
parent to offspring?

* The transmission of characteristics from parents to offspring is called heredity,

and the characteristics that are inherited can be predicted. Reginald Punnett
contributed much to the science of genetics when he designed a method of
predicting traits as he was studying poultry genetics.

3. Draw and describe the life cycle of human, plants, and animals.

life cycle shows how living things grow and change over time. Plants start as
seeds then most form flowers & fruit. Animals start from eggs or live birth then
they grow up and mate. All life cycles start at birth, end with death and involve
growth & reproduction
The human body constantly develops and changes throughout the human life
cycle, and food provides the fuel for those changes. The major stages of the
human lifecycle include pregnancy, infancy, the toddler years, childhood,
puberty, older adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the senior years.

4. Draw and describe how non-flowering (gymnosperm) plants reproduced.

Gymnosperms are flowerless plants that produce cones and seeds. The term
gymnosperm literally means "naked seed," as gymnosperm seeds are not
encased within an ovary. Rather, they sit exposed on the surface of leaf-like
structures called bracts. Gymnosperms are vascular plants of the subkingdom
Embyophyta and include conifers, cycads, ginkgoes, and gnetophytes. Some of
the most recognizable examples of these woody shrubs and trees include pines,
spruces, firs, and ginkgoes. Gymnosperms are abundant in temperate forest and
boreal forest biomes with species that can tolerate moist or dry conditions.
