This Work Method Statement and Job Safety Analysis shall be updated as required to
reflect any changes in site conditions, scope of work and or procedures to address,
eliminate, mitigate any risks or hazards found.

3. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

The following is a list of minimum equipment required:
a. Hoe/ Shovel/ Crowbar
b. Installation Tools (saws, drills, cutter, etc.)
c. Hand Tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)
d. Punching Hammer
e. Earth Resistance Tester

4. MOBILIZATION OF WORKING CREW AND COMMENCEMENT

 Ensure personnel have attended ExxonMobil safety induction course prior to
commence work and conduct pre-task talk (PTT)
 Ensure appropriate PPE (Safety helmet with chin strap, safety glasses, safety
gloves, mask, safety boots, coverall reflective vest, respirator) additional PPE will be
included on activities of work.
 Supervisor to ensure approved JLA and conduct PTT to the crews prior to start work.
 Supervisor to ensure permit to be approved prior to start work. Location of work map
is to be attached with the permit.
 Safety / Site supervisor to be briefed on the emergency procedure location of the
assembly point to the crews
 Apply LPSA at all times for all personnel and remove all hazards that have been
identify on site prior to start work.
 Ensure barricade and relevant hazard sign to be display on work area.
 Supervisor to ensure the site is safe to work prior to start.

5. WORK SEQUENCE PROCEDURES

5.1 UPVC Pipe Installation
 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Clear the area along the designated route of the uPVC pipe of any obstacles
or debris.
 Plan the routing f the uPVC pipe along the designated path for the earth cable
as per approved drawing.
 Cut the uPVC pipe to the required lengths using appropriate tools
 Connect the uPVC pipe sections using sockets and secure them in place
 Insert the earth cable into the uPVC pipe, ensuring that it runs smoothly
through the entire length.

5.2 Earth Chamber Pit Installation
 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Remove the soil at designed area of earth pit according to the approved
design and dimensions for the pit using shovel.
 Placed the earth chamber pit into the excavated area using suitable
equipment, ensuring proper alignment and it is flush with the external ground /
road level.
 Ensure that the earth pit is free from dirt and rubbish.
 Secure the earth rod and the cable / tape inside the pit.
 Backfill the earth chamber pit with sand.

5.3 Earth Rod Installation

 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Clear the area around the installation site of any obstacles or debris.
 Selected 16sqmm x 1800mm copper earth rods.
 Insert the earth rod into the ground by pressing in until stable before punching
by hammer.
 The copper rod is to be driven into the ground by manually use punching
hammer, on both side of hammer will hold by workers and slowly punching
the rod.
 Install the rod until resistance value lesser than 5 Ohm measured and record
the value. It is recommended/preferable to drive a minimum of 3m lengths of
copper rod into the ground.
 Connect the 25x3mm Copper Tape to Rod with Clamp.
 Ensure a secure the connection.

5.4 Earth Cable / Tape Bonding

 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Identify bonding points where the earth cable will be connected to the
systems or structures requiring grounding as per earth schematic and
Lightning protection drawings.
 Install bonding points securely, ensuring good electrical conductivity.
 Cable / Tape size to be follow as per approved drawings.
 Connect the earth cable to the bonding points using the cable lug.
 Connect the 25x3mm tape to the bonding points using the copper tape B
clamp.
 All the bonding connections shall be checked for correct tightness and
cleanliness.

5.5 Test Link Box Installation

 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Ensure the test link box location and height as per approved drawing.
 Install the test link box securely on a mounting surface using the wall plug.
 Ensure that the box is positioned to allow easy access for testing and
maintenance.
 Connect the copper tape from down connector to the designated terminals
(Copper tape round test clamp) on the test link box.
 All the bonding connections shall be checked for correct tightness and
cleanliness.

5.6 Air-Terminal Installation

 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Clear the area around the installation site of any obstacles or debris.
 Identify the optimal locations for installation air terminals (as per lightning
protection approved drawing).
 Install air terminals securely on floor mounting surfaces using the provided
mounting hardware of terminal or Unistrut frame.
 Connect the copper tape from the air terminal to the designated terminals on
the lightning protection system.
 Ensure proper bonding and secure connections

5.7 Exothermic Welding

 Contact a pre-installation site assessment to identify potential hazards and
ensure proper safety measures are in place.
 Clear the area around the installation site of any obstacles or debris.
 Clean up the conductor with a brush to remove dust or paint (if any) to
prepare the exothermic process.
 Place the conductors into the mold crucible and closed the mold by ‘fastened
lock’.
 Place the steel disc into the mold crucible and ensure it is correctly positioned

 Pour the weld metal into the mold, spreading some starting powder on edge
of the mold.
 Close the mold lid & ignite with a flint gun from the side of the mold. This will
generate sparks onto the starting powder, which will in turn react with the
weld metal to form into molten metal. The molten metal will flow into the mold
cavity where the conductors are in positioned.
 EXOTHERMIC reaction takes place & a weld connection is done.
 Open the mold & remove the conductors from the mold.
 Leave the mold to cool before proceeding the next EXOTHERMIC
connection.
