SECTION 10 14 00 – SIGNAGE

PART 1 - GENERAL
A. Drawings, Project Database and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS Section. Review all listed above to determine details, assemblies and location of dimensional control for all elements of the Work of this section. Noted. Comply.

A. The intent of this specification is to include all items necessary for the proper execution and completion of the Work by the Signage Contractor. Performance by the
Signage Contractor shall be required to the extent consistent with the Contract Documents.
B. The intent of the Contract Documents is to provide everything necessary for a complete contract. All drawings and specifications are mutually dependent. In the event of

1. Be responsible for the engineering, procurement and installation of the Signage work based upon the Drawings and the requirements of this Specification.
2. Be responsible for the final confirmation of materials, sizes, thickness, types, locations of fixings and related accessories, all in accordance with specified standards

1.4 ADMINISTRATIVE

2. Submit original shop drawings to illustrate details of Work on minimum sheet size A0 (840mm x 1190mm).
3. Shop drawings, which are to be provided by the Sign Contractor, will be used as the final construction documents and must include all construction, engineering and
installation details for the complete implementation of the designs described herein.
4. The Sign Contractor shall provide dimensioned shop drawings for all signs, clearly showing elevations, sections, dimensions, materials, typographic layouts, fabrication Noted and will be complied. Comply.

C. Samples and Mockups
1. Label samples to indicate product, characteristics, and location in the Work. Samples will be reviewed for color and appearance only. Furnish sufficient samples to
establish the full range of colors and textures for materials exposed in the finished work. Compliance with other requirements is the responsibility of the Contractor.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
4. Provide complete full-size prototypes of each unique sign type as noted in the signage drawings. See individual sheets for additional information and Table B at the end
of this Section.
5. Duly reviewed and approved sign samples shall be the minimum workmanship and quality standard for reference until completion of the Work.
6. Duly reviewed sign type samples shall be retained by the Sign Contractor until released by the Consultant, at which time they may be incorporated into the permanent
Work.
7. Install completed prototype signs on site for each unique sign type. Prototypes to be retained and stored on site for reference. Signs should be coordinated with on-site
construction status as to demonstrate the final condition. Prototypes to be retained and stored on site for reference. Noted and will be complied. Comply.
8. Adjustments made on samples by the Consultant are not intended to change the Contract Price. If adjustments affect the value of the Work, state such in writing for
approval by the Construction Manager prior to proceeding with the Work.
9. The Owner, Consultant or Construction Manager reserve the right to reject any sample or product found not to meet minimum quality and craftsmanship as outlined in
this document and / or deemed inappropriate for the project’s overall design standards. Rejected samples or products will require immediate resubmission with 5 working
days;
unless notified in writing and approved by the Owner, Consultant and / or Construction Manager, and will be furnished at no additional cost. The sign Contractor must have
complete approval on all samples and products prior to production.
10. Product and material manufacturer’s printed specifications, anchorage details, installation and maintenance instructions are to be provided as part of the shop drawing
submittal.
F. Estidama Submittal Requirements
1. Estidama Supporting Documentation as per section 01 81 14, Estidama Requirements. Information to be supplied for this form shall include:
a. Cost breakdowns for the materials included in the Contractor or sub-contractor’s work. Cost breakdowns shall include total cost plus itemized material costs for the
signage system and associated products. Noted and partially complied. Proposed and Complied.
b. The manufacturing location and raw material sources of the signage system and associated products.
c. The amount of post-consumer and/or post-industrial recycled content in the signage system.
d. The VOC content of all interior and field-applied adhesives, sealants, paints, and coatings.
A. Final as built drawings are to be submitted upon completion of work and upon final approval. Drawings are to be submitted in electronic and hard copy form to the
client. Drawings are to show details and notes including final as built conditions, designs, and included any site instructions and / or addendums required for the fabrication

A. Basis of Design: When particular manufacturers’ materials, products or processes are specified for an item of Work, only approved alternatives may be used. An
alternative material, product or process will be considered if the Contractor submits a written substitution request together with such information as may be necessary to
assist the Engineer in determining whether the proposed substitution is acceptable; the burden of proof rests solely upon the Contractor.
B. Fabricator/Installer: A firm specializing in signage fabrication work similar to that indicated for this project for a minimum of 5 years and with sufficient production and
installation capacity to produce required products, systems and assemblies specified without causing delay to the Work.
C. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with applicable requirements of the laws, codes, ordinances and regulations of authorities having jurisdiction. Obtain necessary
approvals from authorities having jurisdiction.
D. The Consultant must be notified of any variations of conditions as shown on these drawings. It shall be the Sign Contractor’s responsibility to obtain and utilize the most
current and up-todate plans and specifications for all construction and installation work.
1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE Noted and will be complied. Comply.
E. Work done and material furnished shall be of superior quality in every respect. The Owner, Consultant, and / or Construction Manager shall reserve the right to reject
any work or materials that are not deemed acceptable by their assessment.
F. The Owner, Consultant, and / or Construction Manager shall reserve the right to reject any shop drawings, samples, or other submittals, as well as any finished product or
installation that does not meet or exactly equal the standard of quality established. Any such decision will be considered final and not subject to recourse.
G. The Sign Contractor must guarantee that only new materials are being used for this work.
H. Products must be made accessible for quality control inspection at any time.
I. Any claims for work carried out on instructions by others will not be accepted or honored.
J. Provide site administration and inspection of this part of the Work.

A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements:


1. Signs to be packaged to prevent damage or deterioration during shipment, handling, storage and installation. Maintain protective covering in place and in good repair
until removal is necessary.
2. Deliver signs only when the site and mounting services are ready for installation work to proceed.
1.9 DELIVERY STORAGE AND 3. Store products in dry condition inside enclosed facilities.

HANDING 4. Ensure products are secured to prevent willful damage and / or theft. Sign Contractor to coordinate with the Construction Manager as to the possibility of on site storage

6. Packaging Waste Management:
a. Refer to the Overall Construction Environmental Management Plan (OCEMP) for environmental requirements concerning packaging materials.
b. Contractor is encouraged to obtain materials in biodegradable or recyclable/reusable packaging using the minimum amount of packaging possible.
A. Sign Contractor to verify all site conditions in accordance with Section 01 31 00.
B. Sign Contractor is responsible for ensuring that all site conditions have been thoroughly reviewed and coordinated prior to fabrication.
C. Sign contractor is responsible for coordinating with the General Contractor and other trades to ensure a successful fabrication and installation of all sign products.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS


A. Drawings, Project Database and general provisions of the Contract, including General and
Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. Review all
listed above to determine details, assemblies and location of dimensional control for all elements of
the Work of this section.

1.2 SUMMARY
A. The intent of this specification is to include all items necessary for the proper execution and completion
of the Work by the Signage Contractor. Performance by the Signage Contractor shall be required to
the extent consistent with the Contract Documents and reasonably inferable from them as being
necessary to produce the indicated results.
B. The intent of the Contract Documents is to provide everything necessary for a complete
contract. All drawings and specifications are mutually dependent. In the event of a discrepancy,
or an error, neither document rules over the other. Signage Contractor is to make the
Consultant aware of any inconsistencies found in the design drawings; including but not limited to
incorrect quantities, inconsistencies in the sign between drawings, incorrect dimensions,
installation or site conflicts.
C. Provide in accordance with requirements of the Contract Documents. The Signage work is specified by
the performance specifications. The drawings show the design intent and except for setting out
parameters and finished profiles, are indicative only. The Contractor shall full responsibility for the
Work of this specification including but not limited to the following:
1. Be responsible for the engineering, procurement and installation of the Signage work based upon
the Drawings and the requirements of this Specification.
2. Be responsible for the final confirmation of materials, sizes, thickness, types, locations of fixings
and related accessories, all in accordance with specified standards detailed herein and
submission of samples for review and acceptance by the signage Consultant and Architect prior
to fabrication and/or manufacture.
3. Compliance with the requirements of the UAE and the local municipality where the project is
located as related to applicable Building Codes, the International Building Code (IBC) and other
applicable local regulations Submit all information necessary to the relevant statutory authorities

1.4 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS

A. Product Data

general properties of each material and accessory to be used in the Work. Include,
manufacturer’s technical data documenting the primary function, quality and performance of
each system and containing specification for each material, or other information as
required.
B. Shop Drawings
1. Show in detail the construction, thickness of materials, jointing, methods of installation,
fastening and supports, location and sizes of welds, anchoring, hangers, additional
reinforcing of structural steel, and all other pertinent information. Show all loads and
eccentricities. Submit details drawn to scale at not less than 1:5. Shop drawings shall
contain the design, type of steel and load assumption and shall bear the seal of a
licensed Professional Engineer (Submit Professional Engineer's credentials and license).
2. Submit original shop drawings to illustrate details of Work on minimum sheet size A0

3. Shop drawings, which are to be provided by the Sign Contractor, will be used as the final
construction documents and must include all construction, engineering and installation
details for the complete implementation of the designs described herein.
4. The Sign Contractor shall provide dimensioned shop drawings for all signs, clearly showing
elevations, sections, dimensions, materials, typographic layouts, fabrication methods,
external finishes, anchorage, and other details of construction as well as details related to
engineering, adjacent construction associated with signage and other construction
responsibilities. The Sign Contractor shall be responsible for all construction, installation
and internal supports for a safe and permanent installation of all signs. Furnish location
detail drawings for signs supported or anchored to other construction.
5. Shop drawings shall include complete details of fasteners (diameter, length, type, and
material).
6. Sign contractor is responsible for ensuring they have the most current Design Intent
drawings as well as any other applicable documents: such as architectural, structural and
electrical drawings of the building.
7. The Sign Contractor is responsible for ensuring that appropriate fastening methods are used
as required by the specific substrate that product is to be installed on.
8. Shop drawings for any sign weighing more than 25kg, or integrated within architectural
surfaces or materials are to be reviewed and signed by a certified professional structural
engineer recognized in the UAE.
C. Samples and Mockups
1. Label samples to indicate product, characteristics, and location in the Work. Samples
will be reviewed for color and appearance only. Furnish sufficient samples to establish the
full range of colors and textures for materials exposed in the finished work. Compliance
with other requirements is the responsibility of the Contractor.
2. Submit (5 sets). The Construction Manager will retain (1 set), the Consultant will retain (2
sets), the Client will retain (1 set) of samples, the other will be returned to the Sign
Contractor.
3. Temporary models to be reviewed at Architect’s office. Temporary models shall be
constructed of white foamcore and/or white posterboard; with digital paper prints applied to
represent placeholder graphics as applicable. See individual sheets for additional information
and Table A at the end of this Section.
4. Provide complete full-size prototypes of each unique sign type as noted in the signage
drawings. See individual sheets for additional information and Table B at the end of this
Section.
5. Duly reviewed and approved sign samples shall be the minimum workmanship and
quality standard for reference until completion of the Work.
6. Duly reviewed sign type samples shall be retained by the Sign Contractor until
released by the Consultant, at which time they may be incorporated into the
permanent Work.
7. Install completed prototype signs on site for each unique sign type. Prototypes to be
retained and stored on site for reference. Signs should be coordinated with on-site
construction status as to demonstrate the final condition. Prototypes to be retained

8. Adjustments made on samples by the Consultant are not intended to change
the Contract Price. If adjustments affect the value of the Work, state such in
writing for approval by the Construction Manager prior to proceeding with the Work

provided to the Consultant for approval prior to production.
3. All artwork to be submitted in either full size hardcopy or electronic form as Adobe PDF
(.pdf).
4. The Owner reserves the right to add and otherwise modify sign text and lettering layout
during the submittal reviews at no additional cost to the Owner.

F. Estidama Submittal Requirements


1. Estidama Supporting Documentation as per section 01 81 14, Estidama Requirements.
Information to be supplied for this form shall include:
a. Cost breakdowns for the materials included in the Contractor or sub-contractor’s work.
Cost breakdowns shall include total cost plus itemized material costs for the
signage system and associated products.
b. The manufacturing location and raw material sources of the signage system and
associated products.
c. The amount of post-consumer and/or post-industrial recycled content in the signage
system.
d. The VOC content of all interior and field-applied adhesives, sealants, paints, and
coatings.

1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS


A. Final as built drawings are to be submitted upon completion of work and upon final approval.
Drawings are to be submitted in electronic and hardcopy form to the client. Drawings are to
show details and notes including final as built conditions, designs, and included any site
instructions and / or addendums required for the fabrication and installation of the products.:

1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS

B. Extra Stock Materials: Provide 15% overage of all materials, fasteners and completed
assemblies.
C. Tools: Provide Owner with [2] lifting devices of type suitable for changeability of large-scale glass

A. Basis of Design: When particular manufacturers’ materials, products or processes are
specified for an item of Work, only approved alternatives may be used. An alternative material,
product or process will be considered if the Contractor submits a written substitution request
together with such information as may be necessary to assist the Engineer in determining
whether the proposed substitution is acceptable; the burden of proof rests solely upon the
Contractor.
B. Fabricator/Installer: A firm specializing in signage fabrication work similar to that indicated for this
project for a minimum of 5 years and with sufficient production and installation capacity to produce
required products, systems and assemblies specified without causing delay to the Work.
C. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with applicable requirements of the laws, codes, ordinances
and regulations of authorities having jurisdiction. Obtain necessary approvals from authorities
having jurisdiction.
D. The Consultant must be notified of any variations of conditions as shown on these drawings. It
shall be the Sign Contractor’s responsibility to obtain and utilize the most current and up-to-
date plans and specifications for all construction and installation work.
E. Work done and material furnished shall be of superior quality in every respect. The Owner,
Consultant, and / or Construction Manager shall reserve the right to reject any work or materials
that are not deemed acceptable by their assessment.
F. The Owner, Consultant, and / or Construction Manager shall reserve the right to reject any shop
drawings, samples, or other submittals, as well as any finished product or installation that does
not meet or exactly equal the standard of quality established. Any such decision will be
considered final and not subject to recourse.
G. The Sign Contractor must guarantee that only new materials are being used for this work.
H. Products must be made accessible for quality control inspection at any time.
I. Any claims for work carried out on instructions by others will not be accepted or honored.
J. Provide site administration and inspection of this part of the Work.

1.9 DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDING


A. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements:
1. Signs to be packaged to prevent damage or deterioration during shipment, handling, storage
and installation. Maintain protective covering in place and in good repair until removal is
necessary.
2. Deliver signs only when the site and mounting services are ready for installation work to
proceed.
3. Store products in dry condition inside enclosed facilities.
4. Ensure products are secured to prevent willful damage and / or theft. Sign Contractor to
coordinate with the Construction Manager as to the possibility of on site storage and or
work area, if required.
5. Refer to product MSDS for precautionary measures during storage and handling.
6. Packaging Waste Management:
a. Refer to the Overall Construction Environmental Management Plan (OCEMP) for
environmental requirements concerning packaging materials.
b. Contractor is encouraged to obtain materials in biodegradable or recyclable/reusable
packaging using the minimum amount of packaging possible.

1.10 SITE CONDITIONS


A. Sign Contractor to verify all site conditions in accordance with Section 01 31 00.

B. Sign Contractor is responsible for ensuring that all site conditions have been thoroughly
reviewed and coordinated prior to fabrication.
C. Sign contractor is responsible for coordinating with the General Contractor and other trades to
ensure a successful fabrication and installation of all sign products.
D. Sign contractor to coordinate with other building trades all signage elements that are carved into
building surfaces, or require in-lay within wall surfaces prior to wall finishing.

1.11 SCHEDULE
A. Sign fabricator is to provide a complete and detailed schedule of all activities related to the
fabrication and installation of sign products. This should include but is not limited to:
1. Submission of samples
2. Submission of prototypes
3. Installation of on-site mockups and prototypes
4. Submission of shop drawings
5. Fabrication of signs including key milestones such as acquisition of materials, fabrication
of sign products, painting and finishing
6. Installation including key milestones such as final installation of product types, complete
installation

1.12 WARANTY
A. Manufacturer Warranty: Warrant work of this Section for period of 2 years against defects and/or
deficiencies in accordance with Section 01 77 00. Promptly correct any defects or
deficiencies, which become apparent within warranty period, to satisfaction of the signage
consultant or Architect and at no expense to Owner. Defects include but are not limited to;
buckling, opening of seams, bond failure and extensive colour fading.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL
A. The Designs contained within the Contract are the property of Pentagram and may not be
used for any other purpose than reference without express written permission of the Owners and
/ or Pentagram.
B. Provide graphics items as completed units produced by a single manufacturer, including
necessary mounting accessories, fittings and fastenings.
C. Do not scale drawings for dimensions. Sign Contractor to verify and be responsible for all
dimensions and conditions shown by these drawings. Construction Manager to be notified of
any discrepancy in drawing, in field directions or conditions, and / or of any changes required
for all such construction details.
D. The Sign Contractor, by commencing work of this section, assumes overall responsibility, as part
of his warranty of work, to assure that assemblies, components and parts shown or required
within the work of the section, comply with the Contract Documents. The Sign Contractor shall
further warrant that all components, specified or required to satisfactorily complete the
installation, are compatible with each other and with conditions of installations.
E. The Sign Contractor shall obtain and pay for all necessary permits and variances.
F. The Sign Contractor is responsible for meeting all local, building codes as well established
national standards and requirements.

G. Sign components presented in the Graphics document are for design intent purposes only. Duly
reviewed and /or engineered shop drawings shall be provided by the Sign Contractor to be
used as the final construction documents, and shall include complete construction,
engineering and installation details required for implementing the designs described herein.
H. Sign Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, tools, supplies and services
necessary and reasonably incidental to complete fabrication, installation and delivery of
sign(s) as specified. Sign Contractor shall provide all materials, equipment, services, labor
tools, and supplies to fulfill completion of this contract. Sign Contractor shall be responsible or
a complete and thorough job. Materials not specifically described but required for a complete
and proper installation shall be identified and provided for by the Sign Contractor. Sign
Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of all materials and workmanship of any firms
or individuals who act as his subcontractors. Sign Contractor shall be responsible for providing
subcontractors with complete and up-to-date drawings, specifications, sign schedules and
other information issued for this project. The Sign Contractor shall be responsible for
coordinating final review and approval of all copy wording with Consultant prior to submittal of
shop drawings.
I. Provide complete and comprehensive fabrication / installation liaison with all other trades. Where
the Sign Contractor is providing graphics only, it shall be the Sign Contractor’s responsibility
to schedule his work to coincide with other trades’ fabrication, finishing and installation
schedules.

2.2 MATERIALS
A. Metal Surfaces, General: For metals which will be exposed to view in the finished work,
only use materials which are smooth and free of pitting, seam marks, roller marks, rolled
trade names, roughness and other surface blemishes.
1. Steel:
a. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: BS 1449 Part 1.
b. Structural Shapes: BS 5950 Part 1.
c. Structural Carbon Steel Tube: BS 1387.
d. Structural Steel Sections: BS 4 Part 1.
e. Hot-Rolled Steel Sections: BS 4848 Part 2.
f. Welding Rods and Bare Electrodes: Select in accordance for the metal alloy to be
welded. Welding procedures shall be such that distortion is reduced to a minimum
and local distortion rendered negligible in the final fabrication. Corrections, if
necessary, shall be undertaken by a method, w h i c h has been agreed to by
the consultant. No welds other than those shown on the Shop Drawings, even for
temporary attachments or repairs, shall be acceptable unless agreed by the
consultant. If welded temporary connections are agreed upon, then the welding and
removal of the connection shall be in accordance with clause 15 of BS EN 1011-1.
2. Aluminum: Provide alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer or finisher for
type of use and finish specified or shown, and with not less than the strength and durability
properties of the alloy and temper designated below for each aluminum form required.
a. Aluminum Extrusions: All extruded aluminum alloy framing members shall be
fabricated from the appropriate grade of aluminum alloy complying with BS EN
12020-1 and BS EN 755-2, unless otherwise specified.
b. Aluminum Sheet: Unless specified otherwise, aluminum sheeting shall be a minimum
of 3mm thick and satisfy the requirements of BS 1470, BS EN 485: Parts 1-4, BS
EN 515 and BS EN 573: Parts 1-4.
c. All painted surfaces properly primed. Finish coating of paint to have complete
coverage.

d. Custom extrusion designs, provided, enhanced, and/or developed within the scope of this
Contract are and will remain the property of the Owner.
e. Finish to match Architectural Samples
3. Stainless Steel:
a. Duplex stainless steel sheet: ASTM A167, Type 316 to ASTM A 167-96, Type 316 alloy in
sandblasted finish unless shown otherwise.
B. Acrylic
1. Cast or continuously manufactured polymethyl methacrylate (pmmA) acrylic that offers excellent
optical clarity.
2. Photopolymer
a. Exterior-grade photopolymer resin of photosensitive synthetic rubber compound
monomers. Exterior rated after initial exposure to UV light and has a 0% swell rate in
moisture-saturated environments.
C. Exterior Plaster Surfaces, General: Signage Contractor to coordinate with Plaster Wall System
Contractor to determine wall details and requirements to implement engraved messages. Plaster Wall
Contractor responsible for supply and installation of panel system. Signage Contractor responsible for
provision of all inset signage components, as detailed in Contract Documents, per schedule dictated
by Plaster Wall Contractor. All signage components to be installed in a manner that protects
surrounding areas, ensures plaster wall system warranties are not compromised, and leaves
surrounding surfaces void of imperfections.
D. Applied Vinyl:
1. 2 mil, pressure-sensitive films designed for permanent graphics that may be pre-spaced and
electronically cut, screen printed, digitally printed or used in narrow width thermal transfer printing
systems with a pressure sensitive adhesive. Films have the same color on both sides, have a
transparent synthetic liner that resists moisture absorption and static buildup, lays flat for easier
assembly of multicolor graphics, and allows superior cutting and weeding.
2. Digital printed graphics on film: protect image with laminated film overlay of same material as
decal base; clear matte finish, as required. Digital prints are to be free from colour fading and
delamination and are to reflect warranty periods as outlined.
E. Paint:
1. AKZO Nobel GripGard® acrylic polyurethane, Matthews Paint acrylic polyurethane, or approved
equivalent complete with priming per guidelines set by paint supplier. Paint to be applied in a
controlled environment and applied via spray unless otherwise required.
2. A low VOC (volatile organic compounds) compliant coating which exceeds EPA standards for
solvents and is an ultraviolet inhibited aliphatic, acrylic polyurethane system engineered for
extreme color and gloss retention. Lead and heavy metal free.
F. Glass
1. Glass panels to be two layers of annealed low-iron Float Glass: ASTM C 1036, Type I, Quality-
Q3, Class I, complying with other requirements specified and with a visible light transmission not
less than 91% relative to a 6mm nominal thickness, laminated together using approved glass
laminating techniques. Laminated layers to be 2, 12mm layers, 2, 6mm layers, or 2, 3mm layers
of heat strengthened glass as specified within the drawings.
2. Yellowish index for the interlayer to be 1.5 or less in compliance with ASTM D1925 Test Method
for Yellowness Index of Plastics, and the glass unit to comply with the performance requirement
meeting ASTM B 177-11 Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus.
3. All laminated glass must use Ionoplast Interlayer.
G. Precast Concrete
1. Signage Contractor to coordinate with Precast Concrete Contractor to determine wall details and
requirements to implement inset messages. Precast Concrete Contractor responsible for supply,
implementation, and installation of precast wall. Sign Contractor to provide forms required to cast

messages in concrete to Precast Concrete Contractor, as detailed in Contract Documents, per
schedule dictated by Precast Concrete Contractor. All signage components to be installed in a
manner that protects surrounding areas, ensures precast wall warranties are not compromised,
and leaves surrounding surfaces void of imperfections. ..
H. LED Illumination
1. 6mm White LED panel to provide continuous even illumination to all visible area of sign face
without hot or cold spots.
2. Final hook-up by Signage Contractor. Electrical components/power supply to be housed within
sign assembly where space is available, otherwise internal cavity below grade is required.
I. Commercial Displays
1. Display: Professional Grade high definition Display Panel.
2. Displays to be provided in 2286mm (90”), 1651mm (65”), 1092.2mm (43”) and 533.4mm (21”).
3. Provide and install high definition display panels. There shall be a gang of commercial grade
display panels that create the panels or single displays as described in the drawing package for
per location. Exact mounting locations and configuration are shown on the drawings.
4. Provide and install message display controller and software provided by the manufacturer for the
commercial display panels.
a. Message display controller and software to interface with the BAS to display graphic
representations of energy consumption, water consumption, weather data, and building
sustainability diagrams as required by Estidama credit IDP-6
5. Provide and install video processor to interface various video signal feeds to allow video content
to be displayed correctly on to the commercial display panels. Contractor shall verify exact
quantity of processors required prior to installation.
6. Thin, adjustable brackets to be provided to securely attach the monitor to the wall, and match the
viewing angles to those specified within the contract documents. All bracket attachments to be
colored matte black and allow for monitors to be easily serviced.
7. Mounting brackets to be secured to wall using bracket manufacturers specifications and allow for
integration of power and data cable runs to create a clean installation of all control systems.
8. There are to be no visible manufacturers names, indicator lights or control buttons.
9. The 2286mm (90”), 1651mm (65”), and 1092.2mm (43”) commercial displays shall have the
following minimum specifications:
a. Native resolution: 1920 x 1080

2.3 FABRICATION
A. Include supplementary parts necessary to complete metal fabrications work though not definitely shown
or specified.
B. Verify measurements and dimensions at the job site and cooperate in the coordination and scheduling
of the work of this Section with the work of related trades (with particular attention given to the
installation of items embedded in concrete and masonry). Allow for trimming and fitting of metal
fabrications wherever the taking of field measurements before fabrication might delay job progress.
On shop drawings, note which dimensions have been verified by field measurement.
C. Fabrication Tolerances: Fabrication tolerances shall generally comply with BS 5950 Part 2, and special
tolerances shall be determined as required in order to produce proper fit and coordination with other
trades. The special tolerances pertaining to length, squareness, preassembled units, milling, camber
and any other items, shall be submitted for consultant’s review.
D. Engineer, fabricate and install exterior components to provide for expansion and contraction over an
ambient temperature range of 45°C ambient temperature range of -10ºC to +40ºC, which may result in
a surface temperature exceeding 90°C without buckling, undue stress on members or anchors, and
other detrimental effects. Fabricate joints that will be exposed to weather in a manner to exclude
water, or provide weep holes where water may accumulate.
E. Typography:
1. All typographic layouts shall utilize typeface specified in each sign type drawing.
2. Letterforms and symbols shall be photographically or digitally rendered in precise, crisp, clean
forms. All letterforms shall be free of ticks, discontinuous curves, line waves, cut or ragged
edges, edge build-up, bleeding, surface pinholes, and other imperfections. Letterforms shall
conform to the prescribed proportions of the typographic font(s) specified by the Consultant.
3. All text, arrows, and symbols to be provided in size, colors, typefaces and letter spacing shown.
Text shall be a true, clean, accurate reproduction of typeface(s) shown. Text shown in drawings is
for prototypical layout purposes only; final text for signs will be finalized prior to commencement of
fabrication of individual sign types.

4. Contractor is responsible for acquiring translations for all signs in Arabic and Braille as required.
Final approved English messages are to be provided by the client / consultant for use.
5. For lettering allowance, refer to specification drawings for typical messaging.
F. Braille Signage
1. All signage requiring Braille and Tactile lettering to be fabricated to be compliant to the Standards
for Accessible Design (SAD) 2010 and the International Building Code.
2. Braille to be Grade 2 Braille. Signage Contractor responsible for Grade 2 Braille translation.
3. Tactile characters must be raised or embossed to a height of not less than 1mm and not more
than 1.5mm.
4. All caps must be used for all tactile characters, and tactile characters must have a height of not
less than 15mm and not more than 55mm.
5. Tactile characters, symbols, and the like, must have rounded edges.
6. The entire sign, including any frame, must have all edges eased.
7. The background, negative space or fill of signs must be of matte or low sheen finish.
8. The characters, symbols, logos and other features on signs must be matte or low sheen finish.
9. The minimum letter spacing of tactile characters on signs must be 2mm.
10. The minimum word spacing of tactile characters on signs must be 10mm.
11. The thickness of letter strokes must be not less than 2mm and not more than 7mm.
G. Construction:
1. Design components to allow for expansion and contraction for a minimum material temperature
range as to be expected at the project site, without causing buckling, excessive opening of joints
or over stressing of adhesives, welds and fasteners.
2. Form work to required shapes and sizes, with true curve lines and angles. Provide necessary
rebates, lugs and brackets for assembly of units. Use concealed fasteners whenever and
wherever possible.
3. Shop fabricate all products so far as practicable. Joints fastened flush to conceal reinforcement,
or welded where thickness or section permits.
4. Contact surfaces of connected members to be true. Assemble so joints will be tight and
practically unnoticeable, without use of filling compound.
5. Signs shall have fine, even texture and be flat and sound. Lines and miters sharp, arises
unbroken, profiles accurate and ornament true to pattern. Plane surfaces to be smooth, flat and
without oil-canning, free of rack and twist.
6. Level or straighten wrought work. Members shall have sharp lines and angles and smooth
surfaces. Extruded members to be free from extrusion marks. Square turns and corners sharp,
curves true.
7. Drill holes for bolts and screws. Conceal fastenings where possible. Exposed ends and edges mill
smooth, with corners slightly eased (rounded). Form joints exposed to weather to exclude water.
8. Finish hollow signs with matching material on all faces, tops, bottoms and ends. Edge joints
tightly mitered to give appearance of solid material.
9. Movable parts, including hardware, are be cleaned and adjusted to operate as designed without
binding or deformation of members. Doors and covers centered in opening or frame. All contact
surfaces fit tight and even without forcing or warping components.
10. Pre-assemble items in shop to greatest extent possible to minimize field splicing and assembly.
Disassemble units only as necessary for shipping and handling limitations. Clearly mark units for
re-assembly and coordinated installation.

2.4 FINISHES
1. All painted surfaces properly primed. Finish coating of paint to have complete coverage
with no light or thin applications allowing substrate or primer to show. Finish surfaces

smooth, free of scratches, gouges, drips, bubbles, thickness variations, foreign matter and
other imperfections.
2. All finishes of materials to match those of the architectural conditions outlined within the
architectural specifications.
3. Precast elements to be finished to match the architectural precast as referenced in Section 03 45
00.
4. Any elements integrated within architectural surfaces are to be coordinated with the Construction
Manager to ensure finishing is consistent with surrounding areas.
5. A suitable bond-break to be provided between all dissimilar materials to prevent galvanic
reaction.
6. Exterior plaster assemblies to be finished to match architectural plaster as referenced in
Section 09 24 00.

2.5 FASTENERS
A. General: Provide same basic metal or alloy as the metal to be fastened, and finish to match in
colour and texture. Type, grade, class and style best suited for the respective purpose. Use
countersunk flat-head type machine screws for exposed fasteners. Use stainless steel fasteners
for exterior construction, dissimilar materials and for fastening components fabricated of
galvanized steel.
1. Steel Bolts, Screws and Nuts: BS 3692.
2. Stainless Steel Bolts, Screws, Studs and Nuts: BS 6105
3. Include supplementary parts necessary to complete metal fabrications work though not
definitely shown or specified.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL
A. Manufacturer's Instructions: Prepare substrates and install the work of this Section, including,
components and accessories in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, except where
more stringent requirements are shown or specified, and where project conditions require
extra precautions or provisions to ensure satisfactory performance of the Work.

3.2 EXAMINATION
A. Site Verification of Conditions: Verify actual site dimensions and location of adjacent materials prior
to commencing work. Notify Consultant in writing of any conditions that would be detrimental to
the installation. Commencement of work implies acceptance of previously completed work.
B. General signage locations are shown on signage plan drawings. Architectural elevations, floor
plans and reflected ceiling plans are to be consulted for specific site, location, and elevation
details.
C. Sign Contractor shall notify the Construction Manager in writing of unacceptable substrates,
detrimental conditions or dimensional discrepancies.
D. Beginning work indicates acceptance of substrate and subsequent modifications will become the
Sign Contractor’s complete responsibility.
E. When not enough information has been provided for installation, the Sign Contractor is
responsible for determining the correct sign positioning with the Consultant or Owner prior to
installation.

3.3 PREPARATION

A. Examine the substrates, adjoining construction and the conditions under which the Work is to be
installed. Do not proceed with the Work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.4 COORIDINATION
A. Coordinate installation of anchorages for metal fabrications. Furnish setting drawings,
templates, and directions for installing anchorages, including sleeves, concrete inserts,
anchor bolts, and items with integral anchors, that are to be embedded in concrete or
masonry. Deliver such items to Site in time for installation.
B. Coordinate lettering carved into concrete or GFRC panels that are specified in this Section but
required for work of another Section. Deliver such items to Site in time for installation.
C. Coordinate power, electrical, and data components as needed.

3.5 INSTALLATION
A. Protect products against damage during field handling and installation. Protect adjacent
existing and newly placed construction, landscaping and finishes as necessary to prevent
damage during installation. Paint and touch up any exposed fasteners and connecting
hardware to match color and finish of surrounding surface.
B. Mount signs in proper alignment, level and plumb according to the sign location plan and the
dimensions given on elevation and sign location drawings. Where otherwise not dimensioned,
signs shall be installed where best suited to provide a consistent appearance throughout the
project. When exact position, angle, height or location is in doubt, contact Consultant or
Construction Manager for clarification.
C. Sign Contractor shall own and be responsible for all signs that are damaged, lost or stolen while
materials are on the job site and up until the completion and final acceptance of the job.
D. Remove or correct signs or installation work the Construction Manager determines as unsafe
or as an unsafe condition.
E. At completion of sign installation, clean exposed sign surfaces. Clean and repair any
adjoining surfaces and landscaping that became soiled or damaged as a result of installation of
signs.
F. Locate signs as shown in G1 and G2 series of drawings (Sign Location Plans).
G. Sign Contractor will be responsible for verifying that behind each sign location there are no utility
lines that will be affected by installation of signs. Any damage to utilities during installation of
signs will be the sole responsibility of the Sign Contractor to correct and repair.
H. Furnish inserts and anchoring devices that must be set in concrete or other material for
installation of signs. Provide setting drawings, templates, instructions and directions for
installation of anchorage devices that may involve other trades.
I. Sign Contractor to be responsible for signage internal wiring and electrical and data cable hook-
up. All source power and data will be supplied to the general vicinity of electrified signs; by
others.
J. The Sign Contractor is to protect goods supplied by him from damage during installation with
appropriate insurance against fire, theft, or other damage. He shall also protect from injury the
property of the Owner, which may be adjacent, or with which he may come in contact, and he
shall make good any such damage occurring through his fault.
K. The Sign Contractor shall not use any hazardous substances in the manufacture of the signs,
nor bring on site any hazardous substances, regulated under any environmental laws, without
the express written consent of the Owner.

L. All exterior structure to support signage is the responsibility of the Sign Contractor. All
necessary blocking, plates or supports within the walls are to be the responsibility of the
subcontractor unless otherwise specified.
M. When installing signs in the vicinity of building expansion joints, consideration to be given to the
movement created by the joints.

3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL


A. Contractor’s Testing and Inspection: Perform the following tests and inspections.
1. Bolted Connection Inspection:
a. Visual inspection of all bolted connections after assembly for correct installation and
assurance of fit and tightness.
2. Welding Inspection:
a. Visual inspection of all welds to BS 5289.
b. Measurement of weld profiles for 10% of all fillet welds, at random.

3.7 SITE QUALITY CONTROL


A. Site Tests and Inspections:
1. Structural Inspection: Ensure a registered structural engineer specified herein inspects
work of this Section during erection/installation.
2. Non-Conforming Work: Replace damaged work which cannot be satisfactorily repaired,
restored or cleaned, to satisfaction of Architect at no cost to Owner.

3.8 PROJECT COMPLETION


A. The Contractor will commence Closeout Procedures in accordance with the requirements in
Section 017700 Close Out Procedures. Employers Representative will schedule and conduct a
project closeout conference at a time convenient to Employer and Employers Representative,
but no later than 90 days prior to the scheduled Time of Completion date of the Works.

The TB50 is a new generation of multimedia player created by NovaStar for full-color LED displays. This multimedia
player integrates playback and sending capabilities, allowing users to publish content and control LED displays with a
computer, mobile phone, or tablet. Working with our superior cloud-based publishing and monitoring platforms, the
TB50 enables users to manage LED displays from an Internet-connected device anywhere, anytime.
Support for multi-screen synchronous playback and synchronous and asynchronous modes makes this multimedia
player a perfect fit for a wide range of applications.
Thanks to its reliability, ease of use, and intelligent control, the TB50 becomes a winning choice for commercial LED
displays and smart city applications such as fixed displays, lamp-post displays, chain store displays, advertisement

This detailed Method Statement was produced to ensure the Best Practice Guidance
the avoidance of hazards and the risks where reasonably practicable as per Local and
Federal Laws.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR Indoor LED Screen

INSTALLATION INTRODUCTION

This method statement describes the procedures that will be employed to carry out the
necessary and associated works.

Indoor LED Screen Size: 112cm x 192cm P1.5 Pixel Pitch

SEQUENCE

SITE WORKS

➢ All signage materials will be transported to the site by the contractor’s


vehicle.

➢ Where possible arrange a meeting on site with the client’s


representative and Site Engineer/project Manager prior to
commencement on site to confirm site access, material storage and
any special site requirements.

➢ Prior to commencement of works, the site is to be walked and all


potential obstructions are to be recognized and measures taken to
reduce the risks involved.

➢ All risk zones will be identified, and adequate signage will be erected
to notify the public/and other personnel if applicable.

➢ On arriving at site all workers shall report to the site office to confirm
arrival and sign in (if applicable). All staff shall then attend a site-
specific briefing before commencing any works with the relevant
foreman. Operatives are to ascertain any information regarding
potential hazards.

➢ Materials to be supplied by a recognized or approved supplier,


ensuring all materials conform to the client’s specification and
relevant standards.

➢ Materials/Tools to be delivered to site by Worldwide Digital own


vehicle.

➢ Ensure that all sign materials are stored neatly and safely in an
agreed area.
➢ The sign area to be cordoned off using safety cones and ribbons.

➢ The Main Sign Structure and all associated sub structure and graphic
panels will be assembled at site.
➢ Trenching of power cables from the power point (provided by client)
and making connections to the LED Screen

➢ Final checks to be carried out. ➢ Project to be handed over to the


client.
➢ After the completion of the work, staff shall report back to the site
office and sign out as required.

Health Safety & Welfare Facilities:

# Any accident is to be reported immediately to the office and authorities. All works will
be stopped until clearance is received to continue.

# A suitable first aid box will be made available

# All equipment operatives will be UAE license registered

# Wear hand gloves, helmet, Safety glass, High Visibility Jacket, and safety shoe etc.

# Operating Area should be barricaded and prevented from any unauthorized entry to
that area.

# Adequate sign will be placed, and signal shall be given by a competent personal.

All personnel will be issued with the necessary PPE and will be expected to always
wear it on site. A special PPE will be issued as necessary in the hazardous locations
following site induction and or issue of a permit to work.

During site induction all personnel will be made aware of the client’s site rules, accident
reporting and site emergency procedures. These will be always adhered to. Worldwide
digital operatives will be familiar with the policies and procedures in place on projects
of this size, with knowledge gained from previous experience.

Any defects or failure proved attribute to the quality of materials and workmanship within a standard agreed
warranty period shall result in replacing the failed product, completely or free of charge commensurate with the
service life expired at the time of replacement.
This warranty shall not cover resulting where there is event of “force majeure” on causes beyond our control and
without the fault or negligence and which by exercise of the reasonable diligence M/s. Galaxy metal Industries LLC
was affected and unable to prevent the event or circumstances.

M/s. Galaxy Metal Industries LLC – (Fabrication, Supply & Installation of Wayfinding/Signage Works) obligation and
liabilities arising in connection with its products can only be limited to the replacement of the products and not to any
other costs or losses of whatever nature incurred by the Contractor or Client (including the cost of replacement
product).

Written notice of defective work will be given to M/s. Galaxy Metal Industries LLC. Should M/s. Galaxy Metal
Industries LLC fail to correct defective work within a reasonable time after receiving written notice, the Owner may,
at his option, correct defects and charge M/s. Galaxy Metal Industries LLC cost for such correction. M/s. Galaxy Metal
Industries LLC agrees to pay such charges upon demand.
