NARRATIVE REPORT

Department of Education
Orientation for Pre-Service Teacher on the
Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers
(PPST)

Prepared by:
Rose Arianne C. Tabora
BECED IV-A
Way back August 4, 2023, the Laguna State Polytechnic University Siniloan
Campus conducted an orientation for Pre-service Teachers on the Philippine
Professional Standard for Teachers (PPST) via zoom meeting. And it was being hosted
by some well-known teachers from the Department of Education Laguna area.

The first resource speaker and also facilitator was Dr. Lucia F. Pagalanan. She
was a public school district supervisor in DepEd Laguna. The topic she first discussed
was all about the DepEd’s vision, mission, and core values. Wherein she emphasizes
things about these topics. But the thing that I like the most was when she discussed the
core values one by one. And I was able to learn deeper about the core values being
implemented in every DepEd’s school. One of those was the “Makabansa”, wherein I
have learned that it wasn’t just sacrificing yourself for the good of the nation, but also by
living as a citizen with respect to your own roots and to the history behind the freedom
we are having right now. I was astonished about that.
The next one she talks about is about the overview upon the DepEd’s K-12 Basic
Education program with the theme of “Bansang Maka bata, Batang Makabansa”.
Wherein she denotes that this program came from DepEd Order no. 21, s of 2019 that
talks about the teaching and learning dynamics ideas, foundational research, and
investigations. The curriculum must be culturally responsive, which means that learning
activities must respect students' cultural identities. And before it arises, the Philippine
curriculum went through lot of changes and innovations since 1976 up to the recent
one. And I have learned and understand that this wasn’t an easy task to achieve,
because global and contextualized approach to education is required. And she

discussed it very well.

The next resource speaker was Mr. Paulino S. Castro, A senior education
program specialist from School Division Office (SDO) Laguna. The topic that he
discussed was about the Philippine Professional Standard for Teachers (PPST). His
discussion features the roles of the Filipino Teachers, wherein quality is a must in order
to develop the holistic learning of the Filipino students. The legal basis of PPST which is
the DepEd Order no. 42, S. 2017. The teacher professional development framework.
Also, the PPST itself which encompasses 7 domains, 37 strands, and 37 indicators for

each career stage.

Session four and five of the said program was being facilitated by Ms. Mirsa J.
Linga. Her topic was about DLL’s/Exemplar/DLP and also the assessment. And for the
last session, the session six was being delivered by Dr. Florentina C. Rancap, a public
school district supervisor in Pila, Laguna. Her message was about the DepEd Order no.
40, s.2012 or the Child Protection Policy. Wherein this denotes that It should be the
policy of the State to safeguard and rehabilitate children who are severely imperiled or
in danger due to events beyond their control that are affecting or will impair their survival
and healthy development. She also discussed about the corporal punishment that can
be passed on to those who are violating the prohibition of this order.
