The indicator hospital beds per 1000 people is another indicator that has shown to be
important during the corona virus pandemic. It shows how many hospital beds are available
in public, private, general and specialized hospitals and rehabilitation centers1 This data for
Malaysia is not available for the years 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2018. As seen in table 1 and
graph 1 the value of this indicator was stable from 2009 until 2011 and then it increased in
2012 (1,9). In 2016 the value reached its minimum of 1,62, but the next year it came back up
1,88. Since the past two years have proved the importance of sufficient number of hospitals
and medical workers, it would be of great value for this indicator to achieve growth in the
upcoming years. For that it is important to improve the data accessibility.

Hospital beds include inpatient beds available in public, private, general, and specialized hospitals and
rehabilitations centers. In most cases beds for both acute and chronic care are included.
