Quantitative analysis

Period 1

Animated delights

The greatest movies of all time is a big topic to discuss and in all honesty I haven’t watched half of the movies considered to be

the greatest. These great movies tend to bore me at times and don’t bring that feeling of nostalgia to me, but animated movies bring

that feeling back. Animated movies tend to light up the screen and have bright colors and are shorter than the live action movies. I

have watched plenty of movies but I would say about 65% of the movies I've watched have been animated. Now when it comes to

picking the top 10 of all time it was tough there’s so many great movies that did not make the list.

The criteria for my list is my personal opinion rating the movie, how much nostalgia that movie gives me, the all-time box

office gross, the animation, a survey sent out to 15 people, total awards won, total award nominations, character design, tomato rating,

and the movie poster. Each of these different criteria were ranked 1 through 10 based on value (10 is the highest, 1 is the lowest). The
rank they had received on each criterion and multiplied it by the rank of the criteria, for example if the polar express was the 5th best

movie poster it would receive 25 points because movie poster is the 5th ranked criteria. Disney and Pixar movies are not included on

the list of animated movies.

This Chart is ranked by the points they received for each category

Every list needs a last place and on this list it happens to be Megamind. Megamind was released in 2010

and is rated 35% on rotten tomatoes. Megamind is a superhero/super villain movie with a story that follows

supervillain Megamind. This movie has animation that would put it in the middle, and a decent plot but just

does not compare to the other movies on this list. This movie was nominated for 16 awards but only

managed to win 2.

Hotel transylvania is a great spinoff of the classic monster/ halloween characters. It follows Dracula and his

daughter mavis. The animation on this movie is great bringing these classic monster characters to the

animated world. This movie scored the most points once again in the survey category. The awards were
close to megamind being nominated for 15 and winning 2. This is a great movie to watch around halloween.

Monster house follows a kid named DJ, his best friend chowder, and a girl scout named jenny. The

antagonist is sort of mr nebbercracker and the house across the street from DJ. The animation on

this movie is very outdated, but it was released in 2006. The movie had a 75 million dollar budget

and I just don't think it was up to date even back then, especially with movies like cars and ice age

2 releasing the same year. This movie managed to pull in 4 awards while being nominated for 23.

In my opinion this movie had the best movie poster with the eeriness of the house looking over the

kids .

Shark tale was released in 2004 and personally is my least favorite movie on the list. The concept of

following Oscar the fish through his daily life as if he were human is a stellar idea. The movie is full of

bright fish and has a few funny moments. This movie pulled in 3 awards with the same number of

nominations as Megamind with 16. This movie has a cast with actors like will smith, angelina jolie, and jack

black.
Kung Fu Panda is a movie that follows a panda named Po who gets trained to be the greatest hand to hand

combat fighter to defeat the antagonist Tai Lung. This movie has made $215,771,591 which ranked 7th

amongst the other movies on the list. This movie won 15 awards and was nominated for 39 awards. It

ranked 7th on the survey I sent out. The voice of Jack black playing Po is perfect; he just matches the

character so well.

Rango was released in 2011 and is not as colorful and bright as other animated movies, but it is also set in a

desert so it can cut some slack. This movie follows Rango, a chameleon who winds up in an old western

town full of cowboys and a low supply of water. My opinion is that this movie should be in the top three.

Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors and the concept of this movie is amazing. Rango movie won 25

awards and was nominated for 46. Rango has some of the best character growth in its movie compared to

the rest.
Fantastic mr. Fox is a 10/10 movie in my opinion and deserves to higher up on the list, and it’s at number 4,

which says a lot about this movie. The stop motion style is amazing and took 5 years to make this movie. It

received 32 total awards and was nominated for 63. This movie is full of quotes and scenes that can just

touch your heart. This movie is rated 93% on rotten tomatoes which is quite high. This movie took a long

time to make and it paid off. This movie is incredible. The design of the character is near perfect from the

different looks of the antagonists Boggis, Bunce, and Beans to the whole fox family. If you have not seen

Fantastic Mr. Fox you have to watch this is a must-watch movie.

Shrek is a classic movie and was released in 2001. This movie is loved by many and has made the most

money out of all the others with a total gross of $268,163,011. This movie brought in 40 awards and was

nominated for 60 awards. The movie follows a classic knight in shining armor saving the princess plot. The

knight in shining armor is Shrek and his princess is Fionna. This movie takes place in the Land of Dulac

which is full of fairytale characters such as pinocchio, the gingerbread man, and the big bad wolf. This

movie is an all-time classic and is full of memorable scenes.

How to train your dragon was released in 2010, and follows a young viking who does not wish to harm

the dragon that roams the world along with the viking. How to train your dragon was nominated for the

most awards along with Fantastic Mr. Fox was nominated for 63 awards. This movie scored a crazy 99%

on rotten tomatoes which is completely insane. The concept of Hiccup going away from his people and

changing the whole way of life is such a big message. This movie grossed a total of $217,581,231 and has

had different shows and other movies spun off of it.

Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse is a perfect movie in my opinion. The animation is perfect with the

comic book style and the different looks of characters from different universes. This movie won the

most awards with 81 crushing the other movies on the list. This movie grossed $190,241,310 and is the

newest movie being released in 2018. This movie is on another tier than the rest taking place in New

York City, and follows Miles Morales a teenager who excels in the classroom which got him into the

academy instead of his public school. Along with Rango this movie features some of the best character

development with Miles learning to fill the shoes of expectations and becoming spider-man. Out of all
the other movies on this list this is hands down the best and is a 10/10 in nearly every category, and is a must-watch. I would suggest

seeing this movie over all the rest because it is perfect.

All these movies on the list come loose in points with each movie coming close to the last except for the dominating number 1

spot. From the awards to my personal opinion each of these movies peaked in their own category showing why they are the greatest.

These are the greatest animated movies of all time.
