Problem statement:

The history of the domestication is believed to have occurred between

20,000 to 40,000 years ago in the case of dogs and in the case of cats, the
domestication has taken place approximately 10,000 years ago, now we’re
facing a problem due to the lack of organization and also the lack of
interest, in the present according to the National Institute of Geography and
Statistics (INEGI), in Mexico, 57 out of 100 Mexicans have a pet, but only
30% of domestic animals in the country have a home and 70%, about 25
million animals, live in a street situation, this amount of animals
demonstrates the great absence of administration of stray animals.

The large number of stray dogs and cats are affecting different factors in
society in general, sectors such as health, hygiene in general, and animal
abandonment are being present due to this same problem. Mexico is the
country with the most stray dogs of Latin America and according to the
Mexican association of veterinary doctors specializing in small species
(AMMVEPE), is globally the first place, with 28 million of stray dogs. The
city of Oaxaca de Juárez is part of the large number places in the state that
is having repercussions with this problem, in fact, according to the reporter
Lizbeth Mejía only in Oaxaca de Juárez is estimated that there are up to
100,000 dogs and cats in the street. According to calculations by the Red
de Animalistas Unidos A.C.

Despite this, Mexico has made different attempts to solve this problem,
since 1990, the Government vaccination campaigns began to reduce the
probability of rabies transmission from stray dogs to humans, or even in
2018 with approximately 7,000 stray dogs are sacrificed in Mexico each
year to control the overpopulation, but neither of these problems had
solutions that make great changes.

Carelessness and irresponsibility of the Mexican society are the main

reasons why these types of problems are and continue to be present. The
knowledge gaps on the subject such as the scarce information on the
prevalence of diseases transmitted by these animals, and of course the
great limitations in the implementation of sterilization and neutering
programs, are a limitation that hinders the achievement of pertinent
objectives,

Mexican society is not giving enough importance to addressing these types

of problems, because despite all the attempts at a solution, it has not really
been given enough importance to give it a concise solution.

This research aims to the better understanding about this problem, that the
majority of Mexican people, Oaxacan people are aware of the responsibility
that comes with having a pet, but also be aware and do not disregard it.
