Introductory Message
This Contextualized Learning Module (CLM) is prepared so that you, our
dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities,
questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to
understand each lesson with ease.
This CLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you
step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-test is provided to measure your prior knowledge on the lesson. This will
show you if you need to proceed in completing this module or if you need to ask
your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of this module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your
learning. Answer keys are provided for all activities and tests. We trust that you
will be honest in using them.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any
part of this CLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and
tests. Likewise, read the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any question in using this CLM or any difficulty in answering the
tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you analyze the core values of community action initiatives. Particularly, you may
be able to understand and explain ideas about human rights, social equity, gender
equality and participatory development. The scope of this module permits it to be
used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the
standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
In the previous lessons, you have learned that communities are the people
who have shared a common experience, identity, or geography. There may be
issues and problems which the community is facing but still there are solutions
that may take place through community action initiatives.
Thus, in this chapter, you will be able to discover that the Core Values of
Community Action Initiatives are coming from the members of the community.
Though there are differences, there are still many things that may unite a
community in having and taking steps to a community action. It will help you
realize that shared values, especially the core values, are being highlighted in
community action.
Personal core values of community action initiatives are guiding principles
that dictate moral ethics and guide us on how we think, feel and behave. They
allow us in shaping a better way of living. The environment we’re in and our own
experiences are part in shaping what we truly value in life especially those we love
the most.
Community values are non-negotiable core principles or standards that the
community’s citizens wish to maintain. The core values of community action are
human rights, social equity, gender equality, and participatory development. These
guiding principles must be acknowledged, honored, and constantly defended to
ensure that change and development occur in accordance with these core values.
Community action provides opportunities for people who deserve change for
the better, to enable them to pursue and achieve self – reliance. With the guiding
core values through solidarity, we can contribute to community development and
nation- building.

The aim of this module is to explain and analyze the different core values in
relation to community action initiative. Specially, it will discuss the concept of
human right, the social equity and equality, gender equality and the participatory
development. Wherein, after analyzing and understanding, at the end of this
module, you are expected to learn the following:

known as community engagement will take place in the community action
initiatives. A community initiative is generally a network of individuals and partner
organizations dedicated to improve the health and welfare of a community. It seeks
to deal with and reduce the effect of social problems, to improve peoples' quality of
life. They vary by community, but may address issues such as homelessness, drug
abuse, domestic violence, and many others.
Hence, it is important for you to understand the core values of community
action initiatives. Let us learn these core values before having actions to
community issues and problems.

considered.

dignity and justice.
⮚ A human rights tree needs roots to grow and flourish. In the roots, label
them with the things that make human rights flourish. For example, a
healthy economy, the rule of law, or universal education.
2. When drawings are complete, each group will present its tree and explain its
reasons for the items you have included.

1. Analyze a particular problem in your barangay, or the community
near you. Plan for the best action that you may suggest for the benefit of
the entire community.

proposal.
