The Netflix TV series "Sex Education" presents us with two best friends Otis and Eric.

Eric Effiong is a
social, exuberant, Nigerian gay man who rejects stereotypical gender norms. “Sex Education” presents
Eric as a confident homosexual, a confident queer and a confident gender-nonconforming crossdresser
who came out to his family when he was 13 (Will, 2021). Eric's best friend Otis Milburn proves to be an
incredible ally throughout all the seasons as we witness Otis attend LGBTQIA+ events, cross-dress along
side his best friend, and support him throughout his journey of discovering all of his intersectional
identities. Otis is an advocate for Eric every step of the way and he tries his best to meet the 3
components of allyship: knowledge/awareness, communication/confrontation, and action/advocacy
(Lauch, 2023). Otis focuses on educating and raising awareness, as a teenage sex therapist, about a
broad range of sexual health topics including the LGBTQIA+ community. He openly communicates with
Eric about all of his needs or issues that he faces within his life, and willing/openly advocates for Eric
wherever possible. Overall, Otis goes outside of his own comfort zone to ensure Eric is supported,
advocated for, and happy.
