1. What fiesta traditions do you observe in your hometown or the place where
you currently live?

- Fiesta is a thanksgiving celebration for the blessings bestowed upon a community


and its residents. They are usually lively and unique. The Tinungbo festival took its
name from the local dialect tinungbo which is an indigenous way of cooking rice and
fresh water and other local delicacies light young bamboo internodo, locally called as
tubong, grilled over charcoal or low fire.With its vast plantation of light bamboo or
bolo, along river banks, mountains, the old folks of Pugo during the ancient times,
had the tradition of using raw materials of cooking their food (Hent, 20222). In my
hometown of Pugo, La Union, our fiesta traditions focus social interaction to
encourage community and unity among the residents. My hometown's fiesta
traditions are as follows:

a) Banderitas have been placed near the munisipyo.


b) Pugoeos bayanihan whenever there is a fiesta activity.
c) Civic parades are held at the start and end of the fiesta.
d) There are so many street vendors selling a variety of foods such as yellow corn,
cotton candy, and street foods.
e) Perya or peryahan is established in Pugo during fiesta.

2. When is the fiesta held, and what does it commemorate? What are its rituals
and activities?
- Every year, the fiesta will start from December 11 and end to January 22. It
recognizes our commoners' traditional cooking methods. This fiesta boosts the
town's ecotourism potential while also giving local farmers more capacity to produce
more lowland products that can be marketed to locals and tourists. This are the
activities during the fiesta are:
a. Laro ng Lahi - This activity focuses on traditional games that have been passed
down through generations and are made from local materials.

b. Cook Fest - This activity is important because it illustrates the literal meaning of
our festival, tinungbo, an indigenous way of cooking with bamboo. This is a
competition between the various barangays in Pugo to show their cooking skills and
creativity.

c. Drum & Lyre and Street Dance Parade & Competition - This is a competition
between Pugo schools. This assist the town in promoting socialization among its
residents, particularly students and pupils.

d. Mr. Pugo and Ms. Pugay Pageants - This activity is a competition for those who
want to win these titles. This allows aspiring candidates to gain confidence and share
their skills, opinions, and suggestions on various issues.

 Performing Arts- There is street dancing during fiesta Competition for a parade.
It is based on the Tinungbo Festibal. In their dance routines, four basic steps that
magnify the people's livelihood were incorporated. These were coined as
Agawis, or the local's invitation to fellow townmates, Gaget, or the depiction of
hardworking farmers and fishermen, Rukbab, or giving thanks, especially after a
bountiful harvest, and the movement of Pugo, or the bird named after the town.

 Culinary Arts- Tinungbo is a traditional method of cooking in Pugo. It is a
tradition passed down from generation to generation by the Pugoenos. This
depicts the way of life of the peoples living of Pugo.
