& President and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan Foundress

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the
year 2009 and it offers B.Tech. Programme, M.Tech.
Programme (Structural Engineering and Environmental
Engineering), and Ph.D. Programme. The Department
has 21 Faculty Members (most of them with Ph.D.
qualifications). The department has been accredited by
NBA (Tier I). Most of the faculty members are fellow
and member of professional bodies in various fields of
Civil Engineering covering the areas of Concrete, Soil
Mechanics, Water Resources and Remote Sensing.
Faculty members continuously update their knowledge
by attending training programmes at IISc, IITs, NITs and
other Premier Institutions. Active participation of the
faculty members in research, consultancy services &
sponsored research activities help them to interact with
industries and demonstrate the application of concepts
in field and improve the teaching learning activities of
the department. In addition, the Department of Civil
Engineering having vibrant student community
association such as Civil Engineering Students’
Association (CESA) and active professional societies
students’ chapters such as Indian Plumbing Association
(IPA), India Chapter of American Concrete Institute
(IC-ACI) and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Six Days Professional Development Programme
(PDP) on “Challenges on Implementation of
Automation and Smart Sensing Technologies in
Construction Sector” is interdisciplinary in nature and
kind of Industry-Institute Interaction. This PDP
intends to provide an overview about the recent imple-
mentation of automation in construction and their
futuristic challenges. This PDP will also focus on the
innovative design and development of innovative green
materials and smart sensing tools in the field of
automation in construction industry. In addition, this
PDP will be bridging the gap and serve as connecting the
tri-linkages of Academia, Industry and the Government.
Finally, this PDP bringing the renowned resources
persons from the Professional Societies, Industrial
Sector and the Government Organization will
deliberate at different themes to achieve the core
objective of this programme.
