Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

I must pass the Praxis Core exam as a requirement to furthering my education

with the goal of becoming a teacher. I would like to become a kindergarten teacher.

Taking the Praxis exam is a requirement before entering UNLV, NSC, and UNR. The

minimum passing score in Nevada is 156 in reading, 150 in math, and 162 in writing.

Exam Preparation

The exam was not my biggest priority at the time, especially given that it is a practice

exam. I was more focused on my other graded assignments from various other courses.

Despite the lack of preparation, I am glad that I took this test. The Praxis practice test was

very helpful with informing me of the Praxis standards and where I should improve. I

now plan on utilizing other study resources to gain readiness for the actual praxis exam. I

have taken the Paraprofessional exam in the past, so I was assuming that the Praxis test

would be similar. However, the praxis test is a lot more detailed and in-depth. It poses

and variety of questions and skills that are not found in the paraprofessional test.

Exam Results

In reading I scored a 52%, which is not likely to translate into a passing score on the

actual praxis without extra preparation. In the math section I scored 67%, which means

that I’m not quite where I need to be to pass that section. In writing I scored 55%, which

also calls for improvement.

Future Exam Preparation

I hope to be better prepared for the actual Praxis exam through the guidance I’ve gained

from this experience. I plan on utilizing resources such as Khan Academy as well as

preparation material given through Praxis.
