Article 5 : Islam And Sustainable Consumption

Summary

Based on the article, it is written here that the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda regarding Sustainable
Development is based on their key goal which is the importance of Sustainable Consumption and
Production (SCP). Sustainable Consumption and Production (known as SCP) is about doing more and
better with less. It is also about decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation,
increasing resource efficiency, and promoting sustainable lifestyles. The article also pointed out that
to achieve economic efficiency only by gaining the amount of consumer demand for sustainable
products. Besides, the article also suggested sustainable consumption be aligned with Islamic
principles. This means putting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a role model to keep good behavior
among humans who have different beliefs and cultures. The article also highlights the importance of
environmental considerations in the context of Maqasid Shariah (Islamic goals) and the Malaysian
Shariah Index.

minimized and at the same time promoting a better quality of society so that the goal of broader
