MAN S I NGH
1. Man Singh was a Rajput prince who became the 24th
Maharaja of Amber and the Subahdar of Bengal for three
terms from 1595 to 1606.
He served in the Imperial Mughal Army under Emperor Akbar.
Man Singh fought sixty-seven important battles in Kabul,
Balkh, Bukhara, Bengal and Central and Southern India. He
was well versed in the battle tactics of both the Rajputs as
well as the Mughals. He is commonly considered to be of the
Navaratnas, or the nine (nava) gems (ratna) of the royal
court of Akbar.
In 1595, he was lost to Baro Bhuiyan Isa Khan at Bengal.

Shaikh Alauddin Chisti (1570 – 1613)
known as Islam Khan Chisti) was a
Mughal general and the Subahdar of
Bengal. He defeated baro Bhuiyan and
transferred the capital of Bengal to
Dhaka and renamed it Jahangirnagar. He
was awarded the titular name of Islam
Khan by Mughal emperor Jahangir.

In Bengal, Emperor Jagangir


sent Islam Khan as the new
viceroy to defeat Baro
Bhuiyans. Islam Khan came
with force, war materials like
guns, artillery & a large fleet.
To win over, he induced one of the Baro
Bhuiyans , Raja Pratap Aditya. Though Raja
Pratap Aditya refrained at last but both
Musa Khan & Usman Khan were defeated by
Islam Khan.
By diplomacy he defeated Baro Bhuyans,
Dhaka renamed Jagangir Nagar & made
capital of Bengal.

P R I NCE S U J A
Prince Suja was the 2nd son of Mughal emperor
shah Jahan. He was appointed as viceroy of
Bengal. He remained in the post from 1639-1660
for 21 years.
He proved himself as an efficient administrator. His
21 years rule in Bengal marked by peace and
prosperity.

Being the Emperor’s son, he showed the importance


of the area to the Mughals. He shifted headquarter
from Dhaka to Rajmahal. The new capital was on
border land that supported conquest: Looking at
Bihar ale to control all parts of the Empire e.g.
Kamrup (NE)

Subadar prince Suja allowed the English to carry out trade in Bengal without
any customs duties. They were asked to pay an annual Lump sum of just Rs.
3000. After getting this unique privilege, the company became greedy to gain
political dominance.

MOAZZAM After months of training with my co-researcher Ms.
KHAN Nasrin, we have come to know that -
1.Moazzam khan or Mir Jumla was governor of Khandesh.
2.He helped Aurangzed to punish Viceroy prince Suja
during 1st struggle of succession.
3.Aurangzeb wanted to reward him with “Khan-e-
khannan”, the highest of all ranks.
4.He transferred the capital from Rajmahal to Dhaka.
5.He establish a firm authority over Bengal
6.Extended Bengal towards Kuch Bihar, Assam, Orissa.
7.He remained most successful viceroy during
Aurangzeb’s rule

SHAISTA KHAN
1.He was Momtaz Mahal’s brother and appointed on 1664 as viceroy
of Bengal. Ruled for 24 years.
2. He abolish the trade monopolies , customs and tolls.
3.Planned to capture Chittagong from Arakan ( Myanmar)
4.Defeated Arakanese and released many people from their prison.
5.Renamed Chittagong as Islamabad

MURSHID QULI ZAFAR KHAN : (1717–1727)
1.At first he was the finance administrator (diwan) of Bengal .
2.In absence of Viceroy prince Nazim, he proved to be a strong &
capable ruler.
3.Then Aurangzeb made him viceroy of Bengal in 1705.
4.At that time, he realized that the great Mughal empire gradually
becoming weak.
5.Then he increased his power in Bengal in a way that would not
trouble the emperor but would help him to rule Bengal virtually
independently.
6.This system of independent ruling from central Mughal
administration called “Nawabi era” which continued till the British
took over.
