By employing research techniques as well as recognizing of examples based on the given lecture, students are
Context to identify, evaluate and re-draw examples of Bronze Age capital designs and derive an original pattern from
the given samples.

Project Guided by the lecture proper, students are tasked to choose and re-draw existing Persian and Egyptian capital
Summary design and use those designs in creating an original border pattern.

Guidelines:
1. Research, identify, and provide a cropped picture of a (1) historical Persian capital. Pictures can be
photographs of actual monuments or an artist's rendition.
2. Redraw and color (using any medium) the capital together with a part of the shaft of the column as
accurately as possible and attach the picture from which you copied your drawing in the space provided.
3. Research, identify, and provide a cropped picture of a (1) historical Egyptian capital, either a Lotiform,
Palmiform or a Papyrus bundle. Pictures can be photographs of actual monuments or an artist's
rendition.
4. Redraw and color (using any medium) the capital together with a part of the shaft of the column as
accurately as possible and attach the picture from which you copied your drawing in the space provided.
Guidelines 5. Research, identify, and provide a cropped picture of a (1) historical Egyptian capital, either a
Campaniform or a Composite example of an Egyptian capital design. Pictures can be photographs of
actual monuments or an artist's rendition.
6. Redraw and color (using any medium) the capital together with a part of the shaft of the column as
accurately as possible and attach the picture from which you copied your drawing in the space provided.
7. Based on your submitted drawings, create and color an ORIGINAL BORDER DESIGN in the space
provided, followed by a short description of your design. Your design should take inspiration from any of
the previous drawings you provided. The description should discuss the qualities, character, and
decisions you made in creating your design. Limit your descriptions to 3-5 sentences only.
8. All drawings have to be hand-drawn and hand-colored. The use of any software in the creation and
rendering of the images submitted will not be allowed.
9. Properly label all your drawings.
10. You will be given TWO (2) weeks to complete this assignment. A SUBMISSION SHEET is provided below,
kindly attach the necessary drawings in the spaces provided and submit the file in PDF format. You are

free to change the size of the spaces in the submission sheet as needed. All in all, there will only be
FOUR (4) drawings expected from you.

Course facilitator
This design was inspired by Hypostyle Hall Ramesseum, and those two sides at the end are from the
second design I made from the Composite Papyrus Capital. The elements of art that I used are harmony,
balance, and asymmetric design. I have to say that I was imagining before starting to do this that those
triangular curved shapes were represented as villages and those behind them resembled towers.
