Course Prerequisites

There is no prerequisite or corequisite for this course. 70 % attendance is compulsory.

Course Definition and Objectives


This course is designed to provide students with the basic fluid mechanics knowledge and skills
that they will need in their student and professional life. In this context, it is aimed to gain the
necessary knowledge and skills in the subjects listed below.
 To give the general properties of fluids and basic concepts related with fluid statics and
fluid flow.
 To give the knowledge and skills related with the general principles of fluid driving
equipments, their design and design of fluid flow systems.

Learning Outcomes and Competences


A student who successfully completes the course is expected to have basic knowledge and skills on
the subjects listed below.
 To gain basic knowledge related with the fluids and their behavior patterns.
 Learning how to make material, momentum and energy balances in flow systems and also to
design the devices, fittings and equipments in these systems.

Teaching Methods and Techniques


The mode of delivery of this course is face to face. Direct instruction, question‐answer,
demonstration, cooperative learning methods and techniques are used.
Course Rules and Expectations
 All kinds of sources and materials related to the course will not be shared. For this reason, it is
important to follow the lesson and take your notes. Students who cannot actively participate in the
course should follow the course from following the course recording.
 The first book source on the reference list is the basic textbook. Students are recommended to
obtain it.
 Course announcements will be sent from the GUZEM system. For this reason, you should make
sure that your e‐mail address registered in the GUZEM is up to date and check frequently.
 For communication with the instructor, you can send a message to nurayoktar@gazi.edu.tr via e‐
mail or GUZEM.
 Attendance and participation in the course is important. For this reason, you are expected to pay
attention to attending classes and possible additional classes.
 Assignments with a deadline that are not sent on time will not be accepted. For this reason, it is
recommended that you complete your assignment without leaving it to the last hours.
