Stapler Patent Application

Introduction
A stapler is a handheld mechanical device designed for binding sheets of paper together by driving a
metal fastener, commonly known as a staple, through the sheets and folding the ends to secure then in
place. This patent application unveils the groundbreaking design of the very first stapler, a revolutionary
tool destined to transform the landscape of document organization.

This document serves to detail a novel stapler design, specifically addressing its function as a means to
securely bind papers together, highlighting its efficiency compared to a paper clip. The intended audience
for this information is patent examiners, who will assess and make decisions regarding the grant of
intellectual property rights for the proposed stapler design.

Technical description
A stapler typically consists of a base, an anvil, hinged top, and a magazine for holding staples (Figure 1).
To use papers are placed between the hinged top and the anvil, and the user applies pressure, activating a
mechanism that drives a metal staple through the sheets, securing the together.

Base
The base is the stable foundation of a stapler. It provides support for the sheets of paper during the
stapling process. Users place the sheets against the base before activating the stapler.

Hinged Top
The hinged top or pivot, is the movable part of the stapler connected to the base. It houses the mechanism
responsible for driving the staple through the paper. When pressure is applied, the pivot swings
downward, bringing the staple from the magazine and positioning it against the anvil.

Anvil
The anvil is a small metal plate or surface located on the underside of the pivot. It serves as a surface
against which the staple bends during the stapling process. The bending of the staple creates a secure
fastening of the sheets.

Magazine
The magazine is the component in the stapler that holds the staples. It is usually located on the hinges top.
The staples are fed from the magazine into the staling mechanism, allowing for consecutive stapling
without reloading after each use.

Pin
The pin allows the stapler to open and close, facilitating the stapling action. It serves as the joint that
enables movement, allowing the stapler to bring the staple into contact with anvil and the sheets of paper
during the stapling process.

Instructions for use

Loading staples on a stapler

1. You first open hinge top by holding the magazine and hinge top and pulling against each.
2. Fully pull the hinge top till fully extended, while you are holding the hinge you will place a staple
stack in the magazine like shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2. Hinge top fully extended, with staples next to it.

3. Once the staples are inside the magazine facing downwards (figure 3), you will then slowly bring
the hinge back to its original position.

Stapling paper
1. When ready to staple papers, you will then place the paper in between the anvil and the magazine.

Figure 4. Paper placed in between anvil and magazine.

2. Making sure you align where you want the staple the paper with the very tip of the magazine like
shown in figure 4.

3
3. By applying pressure from the hinge down (refer figure 5) you will then be able to staple your
paper and by allowing it to pierce through the paper.

Figure 5. Pressure being applied by user.

4. By the pressure created the staple will then be bent by the anvil (figure 7) which will create a
secure binding of the sheets.

5. You then repeat this method by using it whenever you would like to securely bind papers
efficiently.

Safety guidelines

1. Be caution when lifting the hinge top of the staple while because of the spring in the middle it
tends to bounce back quickly. Therefore, to avoid that you must not let go of the hinge when
placing new staples.
2. Be careful on what you place in between the anvil and magazine due to the fact that the staples
would be able to pierce through and may lead to unwanted damages.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the presented stapler design offers a novel and efficient solution. The application seeks
recognition from the United State Patent and Trademark Office for the innovation s intellectual property
rights, as it addresses current demands and sets a new standard in binding paper together. Thank you for
your consideration.
