PROJECT EXPECATIONS
1. Creativity
a. Consider details like colour choices, marshmallows, candy canes,
whipped cream, sprinkles, design on the mug, or background.
2. Ability to follow instructions
a. Are you following the instructions on the slides?
3. No messing around!
a. Chalk pastels are messy so we have to keep them on the paper
and nowhere else. Wash your hands and tables when you are
done.
PURPOSE
This project will focus on the use of colour, lines,
and shapes. It will also look at different techniques
used in the art like blending the chalk pastels.

BLENDING WITH CHALK PASTELS
Students can blend colours by rubbing the chalk
with their fingers or a paper towel. This creates a
smooth transition between colours.

Remember to keep your hands clean and washed

after blending!
STEP 1
Follow the drawing tutorial to
draw out the mug using a
pencil and then go over it with
a white pencil crayon.

Press lightly in case you need

to erase your drawing to make
any adjustments.
STEP 2
Draw in the marshmallows.
Choose a medium brown for
the hot chocolate and then add
shading and highlights with a
dark brown and light cream.

Blend with your finger if

needed.
STEP 3
Use white pastels to colour the
marshmallows. You can choose to
shade the marshmallows with a
light grey colour or just leave them
white.
STEP 4
Colour in the mug.

You can choose to add

shading using darker and
lighter colours like in the
photo below.
STEP 5
Add details!

Use a white chalk pastel to add a design on

the front of the cup.

Use white pastel to draw in the steam, and

then lightly smudge it in an upward motion.

Draw snowflakes in the background and add a

pop of colour at the bottom of the mug.
