Questions:
1. Do you agree that a child should be taught using his/her first language before introducing L2?
2. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in L2?

1. Do you agree that a child should be taught using his/her first language before introducing
L2?
Yes, I agree because if you introduce the L2 too early without a strong foundation in the first language, it
may lead to limited proficiency in both languages. They may struggle to grasp the complexities of both
languages, leading to difficulties in vocabulary acquisition, grammar usage, and overall language
proficiency. By prioritizing the development of the first language, children can establish a solid linguistic
foundation, which then facilitates a smoother and more successful acquisition of the second language.

2. Do you think MTB-MLE will affect a child’s proficiency in L2?

Yes, because Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) helps the development of the
child's first language, providing a solid linguistic foundation. Moreover, MTB-MLE recognizes the value of
the first language and promotes language transfer. This linguistic knowledge and skills acquired in the
first language can be transferred to L2, aiding in expanding one’s vocabulary, correct grammar use, and
the overall proficiency in the language.
