Inspiration
Printmaking was first invented in China in
the form of Woodblock Printing.
Printmaking with
Linoleum
For this lesson, we will create 3 final prints by carving a
planned design into a block of Linoleum using the
linoleum cutters, then rolling our designs with ink
using a brayer and neatly stamping them onto paper
to create a triptych.

Objectives:
- I can learn about the history of printmaking
- I can understand the process of printmaking
- I can plan for and create a triptych of prints using my linoleum plate
Reductive
Technique
The image is printed from a flat surface of
linoleum which is rolled with ink using a
brayer. The areas meant to be un-inked are
cut away and the image meant to be inked
is left behind.
Triptych

A Triptych is a work of art that is

divided into three sections, and
includes three separate panels
of work which are joined
together.
Registration

In printmaking, the term registration refers to the alignment of your

design when you print it onto your paper. We will create registration
marks to help our registration and alignment be successful.
Registration
Today’s Objectives:

- I can learn about the history of printmaking

- I can create a thoughtful plan for my

printmaking triptych by completing the project
proposal and including at least three elements
in my drawing.
