CRAYONS
In 1903, cousins Edwin Binney and Harold Smith
invented something which is very popular up to this
day. They have invented a coloring stick for children
named crayons. Crayon is a French word which means
pencils. Alice Stead Binney, wife of Edwin, named the
Crayons Crayola and became its popular brand.
Crayola is a combination of French words craie (chalk)
and oleaginous (oily). Crayola is a non-toxic crayons
and were the first crayons ever made for children. It
was first launched with a box of eight brilliant colors.
The eight colors of crayons in the box include primary
colors (red, blue and yellow) and secondary colors
(green, orange and purple) plus black and brown.
Manipulating crayons
improves a child’s
dexterity and fine
motor skills.
Coloring can inspire
creativity and build
self-confidence.

BENEFITS OF
Kids learn about force with

COLORING crayons. A mark can be light

or very dark depending on the
amount of pressure they use
when they draw.

Coloring improves
hand-eye coordination,
which is essential in
learning to write
letters.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

SKETCH
A sketch is a drawing that
is done quickly without a
lot of details.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

CARICATURE
Caricature drawings are images that depict
their subjects in oversimplified or
overdramatized manners. Some hallmarks of
caricatures may include enlarging or shrinking
someone's facial features or personifying an
object. Artists may use caricature in
animation, advertising or graphic design.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

PERSPECTIVE
Artists use perspective drawing, also known as 3D or
anamorphic drawing, to create three-dimensional images in
a two-dimensional space, such as on paper. Those who use
this type of drawing pay attention to distance, space, light,
volume, surface and scale to determine how each object
relates to one another. Two types of perspective drawing
include:
Aerial perspective: Focuses on shading, tone and color
Aspects of perspective Linear perspective: Focuses on the
organization of shapes within a space

ENGINEERING
An engineering drawing is a type of technical
drawing that is used to convey information
about an object. A common use is to specify the
geometry necessary for the construction of a
component and is called a detail drawing.
Usually, a number of drawings are necessary to
completely specify even a simple component.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

MANGA
Manga are comics or graphic novels
originating from Japan. Most manga
conform to a style developed in Japan in
the late 19th century, and the form has
a long history in earlier Japanese art.
The term manga is used in Japan to
refer to both comics and cartooning.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

GESTURE
A gesture drawing is a laying in of the
action, form, and pose of a
model/figure. Typical situations involve
an artist drawing a series of poses taken
by a model in a short amount of time,
often as little as 10 seconds, or as long
as 5 minutes.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

CONTOUR
is a simple line drawing, where the artist
outlines the contours of a subject,
without rendering too many details.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF
DRAWING STYLES

SCRATCHBOARD
Scratchboard drawing, also known as scraperboard
drawing, uses a cardboard sheet coated with a thin
layer of clay and India ink. Artists use a sharp tool,
sometimes called a scratchboard nib, to carve through
the ink and reveal the clay. The more lines they make,
the brighter the picture becomes. Scratchboard
drawings can be very detailed and may even resemble
wood engravings sometimes.
What kinds of careers involve drawing?
Drawing is the act of making marks on a surface to create forms, shapes or images. Most
creative careers involve drawing in some form or function. However, careers in math, science
and engineering may also include drawing. Some specific careers that use drawing to fulfill
their responsibilities include:

Drafter Interior designer
