The hydrostatic system is a closed loop. The hydrostatic system is made up of the following main components:
Hydraulic oil tank (19), Work tool pump and charge pump (18), Piston Pump (hydrostatic system) (15), Piston Motor
(hydrostatic left side) (3) and Piston Motor (hydrostatic right side) (6).

The work tool pump and the charge pump (18) on standard flow machines are assembled as one single pump. The rear
section of the pump is the work tool pump. The work tool pump may either be a gear pump or piston pump depending
on the machine model. The front section of the pump is the charge pump. The charge pump is always a gear pump.

The work tool pump and the charge pump (18) on high flow machines are two separate pumps. The rear section of the
pump is the work tool pump. The work tool pump is a piston pump that is mounted to the piston pump (hydrostatic
system) (15). The front section of the pump is the charge pump. The charge pump is a gear pump that is mounted onto
the work tool pump.

The oil that flows from the piston pump (hydrostatic system) to the piston motors (hydrostatic system) flows in a
continuous loop. The oil then returns to the piston pump (hydrostatic system). The hydrostatic system is kept full of oil
by the charge system. The front section of pump (18) supplies both sections of the piston pump (hydrostatic system)
with charge oil.

Charge oil flows from the pump (18) to the gear motor (fan drive), oil filter, and the valve (travel pilot ON/OFF
solenoid). The valve (travel pilot ON/OFF solenoid) must be energized in order for the charge oil to reach the pump
control valves. Charge oil that flows to the pump control valves (9) and (10) are on the piston pump (hydrostatic
system). The electrohydraulic travel control lever actuates the solenoid valves that are mounted on the pump control
valves. When the pump control valves are activated, charge oil flows through the pump control valves. The charge oil
will move the actuator spool which in turn moves the swashplates on the piston pump (15). The piston pump

(hydrostatic system) will then pump oil to the piston motor (3) and piston motor (6).

In the NEUTRAL position, no high-pressure oil flow is provided to the piston motors. The hydrostatic system oil
pressure will be equal to the charge oil pressure.

If the travel control lever is pushed to the FORWARD position, the travel control lever activates the solenoid valves on
the pump control valve (hydrostatic left side) (9) and the pump control valve (hydrostatic right side) (10). With the
travel control lever is in the FORWARD position, the forward travel solenoids for the left and right pumps are activated.
The charge oil that flows to the pump control valve (hydrostatic left side) (11) causes the actuator piston to shift upward.
The charge oil also flows into the pump control valve (hydrostatic right side) (10). The charge oil that flows into the
pump control valve (hydrostatic right side) (10) causes the actuator piston to shift upward. The movement of the
actuators causes the swashplates to move. Movement of the swashplate will cause piston pump (15) to upstroke.

For most models, the flow of the oil out of the "B" loop (8) and the "C" loop (4) increases. This increase in flow will
cause the piston motor (3) and piston motor (6) to rotate. For two-speed SSL models only, forward flow is out of the
"A" loop (5) and the "C" loop (4).

The shafts of the piston motors will turn at a rate that is determined by the amount of oil flowing to the piston motors. If
the travel control lever is moved further into the FORWARD position, the swashplates will move further. The
swashplate position causes the piston pump to pump oil to the piston motors at a greater flow rate. If the flow rate is
greater, the shafts of the motors will turn faster.

The oil that is flowing from the piston motors is at a lower pressure. For most models, the lower pressure oil returns to
the piston pump (hydrostatic) through high-pressure ports for the "A" loop (5) and "D" loop (7). For two-speed SSL
models only, return flow is through "B" loop (8) and "D" loop (7). Any oil that is lost from the “A” loop, “B” loop, “C”
loop, or “D” loop is replaced by charge oil.

The two-speed control switch (11) is a momentary switch. With the multifunction switch (12) in the two-speed position,
press the button once in order to activate the rabbit mode. Press the switch again in order to deactivate the rabbit mode
and return to the normal mode. When the machine is in normal mode, the hydrostatic system functions in the same
manner as machines equipped with the one speed piston motors.

When the operator presses the two-speed control switch (11) in order to activate the rabbit mode, the switch sends an
electrical signal to the valve (speed and shut off) (3). Since the solenoid in the control manifold (two-speed) has now
energized the spool that is part of the control manifold (two-speed ), the spool shifts left. When the spool is shifted to
the left, the spool will allow charge oil to flow to the speed selector valve (8) that is a part of piston motor (hydrostatic
left side) (1) and the speed selector valve (8) that is a part of Piston Motor (hydrostatic right side) (6).

The normal angle of the swashplate is at the maximum angle. When the swashplate is at the maximum angle, the piston
motor is at maximum displacement. When the piston motor is at maximum displacement, the piston motors are at high
torque and the piston motor is at low speed.

When the charge oil pressure is greater than the force of the spring that is positioning the speed selector valves (8), the
charge oil pressure forces the spools in the speed selector valves (8) to shift upward. When the speed selector valves are
shifted upward, the speed selector valves (8) will direct oil to the bottom of pistons (7). Pistons (7) control the angle of
swashplate in the piston motors. Pistons (7) cause the piston motors to destroke. The swashplate angle is now at
minimum displacement so the hydraulic oil will fill the cylinders faster. The faster fill causes the motor shaft to rotate
faster. The output torque of the motor will decrease with the increase in speed. When the piston motors are at minimum
displacement, the piston motors are at high speed and low torque.

When the machine is first started, the machine is automatically reset to the normal mode.

The two speed control switch (11) is a momentary switch. With the multifunction switch (12) in the TWO SPEED
position, press the button once in order to activate the rabbit mode. Press the switch again in order to deactivate the
rabbit mode and return to the normal mode. In normal mode, the hydrostatic system functions in the same manner as
machines equipped with the standard piston motors.

When the operator presses the two speed control switch (11) in order to activate the rabbit mode, the switch (11) sends
an electrical signal to the control manifold and mounting (two-speed control) (2). When the solenoid in the control
manifold and mounting (two-speed control) is energized the spool shifts to the left. When the spool shifts left, charge oil
to flows to speed selector valve (5) on hydrostatic piston motor for the left side (3). Also when the spool shifts left, the
spool allows charge oil to speed selector valve (6) on hydrostatic piston motor for the right side (4).

The charge oil pressure is greater than the force of the spring that is positioning the speed selector valves. The charge oil
pressure forces the selector valves to shift downward.

When the speed selector valves are shifted downward, the valves block the flow of high-pressure oil to half of the
pistons in the motors. These pistons will then freewheel as the motor shaft spins. Since only half of the pistons receive
flow, oil can fill the cylinders for the pistons faster. Filling the pistons faster causes the motor shaft to rotate faster. The
output torque of the motor will decrease with the increase in speed.

When the machine is first started, the machine is automatically reset to the normal mode.
