Hand in:
Submit your report via the Turnitin link on Moodle before 23.30 hrs on the due date shown
above.
Aims:
2. To develop the students’ understanding of the layout, function and operation of electronic
circuits used in an electronic system.
3. To develop a critical understanding of the problems associated with the use of electronic
components, equipment and systems and the influence these problems have on maintenance
procedures and practices.
4. To develop the fundamental knowledge and skill necessary to identify and solve simple
problems on electronic components and systems encountered as an engineer.
LO2: Describe the arrangements, operation and applications of semi-conductor devices using
appropriate terminology.
LO5: Perform fault diagnosis analysis on semiconductor devise using analytical tools.
Task:
Background:
Diodes and transistors are made of semiconductor materials like Silicon and Germanium.
Diodes are used in many electronic devices. For example, rectifier devices used to convert AC to
DC. Transistors are commonly used in switching and amplifier circuits.
Equipment:
Students are required to work in small groups to complete a given project where they are
required to design, test, and build an electronic circuit. Design must minimize
environmental impacts.
Students should work together as a group to present the results of their efforts. All
computations must be presented in the report.
They are then expected to design and test their project solutions and to produce group
project report having a maximum of 2000 words with sections covering the project’s aims,
specifications, and results.
Equal contribution from each student is expected in all the aspects of the project.
Copying other students’ work is strictly not allowed.
Students are required to produce a group project report having a maximum of 2000
words with sections as mentioned in the table below:
Note:
Further guidance will be given during teaching sessions.
Feedback will be provided to the student using following methods; place a (X) as appropriate.
Deferred Assessment:
Students with valid extenuating circumstances (ECs) with respect to coursework will be
allowed an extended submission period as described in the Examination and Assessment
Regulations.
Submission:
Submit your report via the Turnitin link on Moodle before the due date.
Before you submit, check your work, and consider the following points:
