Kindergarten Lesson
Operations: Addition 0-10
You will need:
• Addition worksheets for the students (Summer Addition, School
Addition, Domino Addition, Let’s Add!)
• Optional: Crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.

Instructions:
• Tell the students you are going to need some helpers for this lesson. Call
one student to come up to the front of the room. Then, ask the class
how many children are at the front of the room. (One). Have this child
stand to your left.
• Then, call two more students to the front of the room. Have them
stand to the right of you. Ask the students how many students are on
standing on the other side of you (two).
• Ask how many students are at the front of the room all together
(three). Explain that you just did addition as a class. One student plus
two students equals three students.
• Have those students go back to their seats, and then call up 2 more
students to stand to your left. Then, call 3 students to stand to your
right. Explain that this represents 2+3=5.
• Have all of the students go back to their seats. Hand out the assigned
addition worksheets to the class. Walk around and assist the students
with their work.
• Note: The students will need extra help since this concept may be new to
some students at the beginning of the year.
