MEXICO

GENERAL INFO
1. Its official name is United Mexican States.
2. The national flag of Mexico is a vertical tricolor of green, white and red with the
national coat of arms charged in the center of the white stripe. The legend describes
that the Aztec [estek] settled and built their capital city which they named Tenochtitlan
[teniktitlan], which is today Mexico City, on the place where they saw an eagle sitting
on a cactus, eating a snake. The colours of the Mexican flag stand for independence
(green), unity (red) and religion (white).
3. Mexico is located in North America and is bordered by USA, Belize and Guatemala.
4. The total size is 1,972,550 square km and its about 97 times bigger than Slovenia.
5. The capital city is Mexico City and other important cities are Chihuahua [čiuaua],
Sohora and Coahuila [koauila].
6. The official language is Spanish.
7. The currency is Peso.
8. The President is Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
9. The United Mexican States are a federation whose government is democratic and
based on a presidential system.

GEOGRAPHY
1. Mexico is a land of extremes. Mountains cover much of Mexico. Deserts are in the
north and rain forests are in the south and east. The famous Peninsula [peninsula] in
Mexico is Yucatan.
2. Highest mountain is Pico de Orizaba and it is 5675m tall.
3. The Rio Grande is the longest river in Mexico and it is 3,057 km long.
4. Winters are mild [majld] and summers are hot.
5. Mexico is rich in natural resources and agricultural products.

HISTORY
1. Mexico's ancient societies built great cities and huge pyramids. The Maya and the
Aztec [estek] peoples created remarkable works of art, and even studied the stars and
planets.
2. Around 1500 the Spanish arrived in Mexico. The Aztec [estek] people got sick from
smallpox and other diseases [dizizes] that the Spanish brought with them. The
Spaniards also destroyed the Aztec capital, called Tenochtitlán [teniktitlan].
3. The Spanish ruled Mexico until 1821.
4. In 1821 ended The Mexican War of Independence, which formally ended 300 years
of Spanish colonial rule.

LANDMARKS
The 3 important landmarks are:
1. Chichen Itza [čičen ica] (pre-Columbian city built by the Maya people, famous
pyramid),
2. Monte Alban and
3. a Museum of a famous painter Frida Kahlo [Frida Kalo].

INTERESTING FACTS
1. It has more Spanish speaking people than Spain itself.
2. It has more population than Russia and is ranked 7th in the world.
3. It is the biggest Spanish speaking country in North America.

MY OPINION
1. I think it is the best country in North America.
2. I would give it a 9 out of 10 because they don't have really good education.
3. I chose it because it is my favourite country.
4. I like a lot of Mexican thing, for example: their food, location and so on...
