Discus Throw

The discus throw is an event


in which the participant
throws a heavy disc, called
the discus, into a throwing
sector for distance.
History of Discus Throw
• The discus throw was an event involved in the
ancient Greek pentathlon dated to around 708 BC.
The discipline would be later re-discovered by
Christian Georg Kohlrausch and his students in the
1870s. The men's discus throw event then became a
part of the Olympics at the very first edition at Athens
in 1896. The women's competition was included
at Amsterdam 1928.

• DISCUS
Usually ,the discus sides are made of
plastic,wood,fiber ormetal with a metal
rim on the boundry and a metal cover to
attain the weight.
• SHOES
The discus shoes are made of leather or
suede with smooth and flexible
soles.Cleats are not present over the
outer sole.
• CLOTHING
Throwers wear light weight vests and
shorts.The Shorts may be tight fitted to
support the thights.

A throw will be called a foul in the following


circumstances
•The athlete does not stop in the circle before
beginning the throwing action.
• If during the throw the thrower touches any of
the following with any body part or item of
clothing
Upper side of the iron ring
At any position outside the circle

•The athlete leaves the circle before the


landing of the discus
•The discus lands outside the sector or touches
any sector line.
•The athlete does not leave from the rear half
of the circle.
