American to UK crochet terminology:
sc = double crochet (dc), hdc = half treble (htr), dc = treble (tr), tr = double treble (dtr), dtr
= triple treble (trtr), sk (skip) = miss, gauge = tension, yo = yarn over hook (yoh).

Special stitches and abbreviations (American crochet terminology):

• Legs: parts of complex stitches. Dc2tog (2 dc together), for example, has 2 dc legs.
• To avoid confusing lengthy abbreviations and complicated symbols, custom
abbreviations (written after slash) and symbols (shown after “=” in chart key
table) are used along with regular ones for following stitches:
• FPdc / F (front post double crochet): double crochet, made in front post of
directed st. Yo, insert hook from RS to WS bet posts of prev and directed sts, move
it behind directed st post and insert from WS to RS bet directed and next st posts. Yo
and draw yarn back to RS, [yo, draw yarn through 2 lps on hook] twice.
• BPdc / B (back post double crochet): double crochet, made in back post of
directed st. Yo, insert hook from WS to RS bet posts of prev and directed sts, move
it in front of directed st post and insert from RS to WS bet directed and next st posts.
Yo and draw yarn back to WS, [yo, draw yarn through 2 lps on hook] twice.
• FPdc2inc / F2i: increase, 2 FPdc / F in same st.
• FPdc2tog / F2t: decrease, 2 FPdc / F together.
• BPdc2inc / B2i: increase, 2 BPdc / B in same st.
• BPdc2tog / B2t: decrease, 2 BPdc / B together.
• MC version: multicolored version. Color 1 (for all back post sts and hdc). Color 2
(for all front posts sts).
• All sts are made in posts of sts from previous row, except for hdc, which are
made in bet sts.

1 (page 21)
• Enclosing Color 1 while making front post stitches (FP sts) with Color 2 (page 22)
• Making FP st, in which in next rnd BP st will be made (page 25)
• Bobble (page 26)
General rules:
• All BPdc/B, hdc, beg ch-2, and last sl st in each rnd are made with Color 1
(background color).
• All FPdc/F are made with Color 2 (color of embossed elements).
• All bobbles are made with Color 3 (you can choose to make them with Color 2).
• Switch to other color while finishing prev st: make last yo with next color and draw
it through all lps on hook.
• Do not switch to Color 3 in advance to make a bobble. Do not switch to Color 2 for
FP st if BP st will be made in it in next rnd (tips of leaves, flowers, bobbles, or other
elements). For those sts, finish prev st with same color, yo Color 2 or 3, make st
with it, but finish with Color 1. Such sts are indicated red on Chart 3. There are
reminders in written instructions.
• After finishing any rnd with bobbles, cut off Color 3 (if different from Color 2),

leaving a tail. Join it again in next rnd with bobbles.
• Each rnd starts with ch-2 which counts as back post st. For right-handed, this is the
1st BP st at the left side of an embossed element, thus each rnd ends with last FP st of
that element. Switch to Color 1 finishing last F, and with Color 1 sl st in directed st.
When embossed element is completed, or when directed, shift beg of round to the
side of another embossed element: finish rnd by sl st in beg st, turn to WS, and make
ss in each of directed sts. Turn to RS and begin next rnd with ch-2 (counts as B).
