Single Crochet Stitch (sc): insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull through work (2

Front Post Triple-Treble Crochet (fptrtr): yarn over hook 4 times, insert hook from front to
back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull through work (6 loops on hook),
{yarn over, pull through 2 loops} 5 times
Herringbone Half- Double Crochet (hhdc):yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch, yarn
over and pull through work and one loop on hook (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through
2 loops
Reverse Single Crochet (rev sc): Work a single crochet (sc) stitch in the opposite direction.
Insert your hook in the next stitch to the right if you are right handed and to the left if you are
left-handed, yarn over and draw through work (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2
loops (1 loop on hook)

Special Instructions for Minimizing the Appearance of the Seam


Starting with round 3, make the first fpdc of each round in both the first stitch and the chain 1
from the previous round. I have found this method makes the seam less noticeable (see photos
below). At the end of each round, join by making a slip stitch in the top of the first stitch.

Making the Cable in Round 18

The cable is made over 10 stitches. Skip the next 6 stitches, fptrtr in the next 4 stitches.
Working behind the 4 fptrtr, hdc in the fifth skipped stitch and sixth skipped stitch. Work a fptrtr
in the first skipped stitch, second skipped stitch, third skipped stitch, and fourth skipped stitch.
I have numbered the stitches in the photo below in the order that each should be
completed. See step by step photos below.

Pattern Notes
This bag is made in the round, beginning with the bottom of the bag and working up. The
chain at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Refer to the instructions
on page 3 as needed for minimizing the appearance of the seam. Instructions for making
the large cable can be found on page 3. Refer to YouTube tutorials in the pattern as
needed.
The strap is made in 2 pieces and then woven together to make one large shoulder strap.
Refer to instructions in the pattern for altering the length of the strap. When making the
strap, the chain 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

The Pattern
Beginning with round 3, work the first stitch around the first stitch and chain 1 from the
previous round. For help with this method, refer to instructions for minimizing the seam
on page 3.

Round 1: With an I/5.5 mm hook or hook used to meet gauge, make the magic ring, chain
2, work 8 dc in the ring, pull the ring closed, join (8)

Round 1 Alternate Method: With an I/5.5 mm hook or hook used to meet gauge, chain 4,
slip stitch in the first chain made to form a ring, chain 2, work 8 dc in the ring, join (8)

Round 2: chain 1, 2 fpdc in each stitch around, join (16)

Round 3: chain 1, {fpdc in the next stitch, 2 fpdc in the next stitch} repeat around, join (24)

Round 4: chain 1, {fpdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 fpdc in the next stitch} repeat around, join (32)

Round 5: chain 1, {fpdc in the next 3 stitches, 2 fpdc in the next stitch} repeat around, join (40)

Round 6: chain 1, {fpdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 fpdc in the next stitch} repeat around, join (48)

Rounds 20-21: repeat round 16

Rounds 22-37: repeat rounds 18-21

To adjust the height of the bag, repeat or omit rounds 18-21 as many times as necessary
until the desired height is achieved.
At the end of round 37, fasten off and weave in loose ends. See strap instructions below.
At this point, the bag should measure about 14” long from the top to the bottom.

Making the Shoulder Strap


Lay the bag flat with the front of the bag facing. Use an I/
5.5 mm crochet hook. If you are right-handed attach
yarn with a slip stitch 6 stitches to the left of the cable
(see photo to right). If you are left-handed, attach yarn
with a slip stitch 6 stitches to the right of the cable .

Row 1: chain 1, hdc in the same stitch, fpdc in the next


30 stitches, hdc in the next stitch, turn (32)

Row 2: chain 1, hdc dec, bpdc in the next 28 stitches, hdc dec, turn (30)

Row 23: with an H/5 mm crochet hook, chain 1, hhdc in the


same stitch and in the next 7 stitches, turn (8)

Rows 24-30 : repeat row 23

To alter the length of the strap, repeat or omit row 23 as


many times as necessary until the desired length is
achieved.

At the end of row 30, fasten off and weave in loose ends.
Turn the bag over and repeat the strap instructions for the
other side of the bag. With a tapestry needle and matching
yarn or using your preferred method, weave the two ends of
the strap together. Weave in loose ends. See finishing
instructions on the next page.

Finishing
With an H/5 mm hook, attach yarn with a slip stitch to the top center edge of the strap.

Round 1: chain 1, working along the edge of the strap, sc as evenly as possible along the strap
edge, sc3tog at corner, sc in each stitch along the front of the bag until you reach the cable,
sc10tog, continue to sc in each stitch along the front of the bag, sc3tog at corner, sc as evenly
as possible along the edge of the strap, slip stitch in the top of the first stitch to join (see photo
below)

Round 2: DO NOT CHAIN 1, skip the same stitch (place stitch marker in this stitch) and rev sc
in the next stitch and in each stitch around until you reach the marked stitch, slip stitch in this
stitch, DO NOT JOIN, fasten off and weave in loose ends.Turn the bag over and repeat
rounds 1 and 2 for the other side of the bag.

With the wrong side of the bag facing, attach a magnetic snap to the
top center of the bag. See pocket instructions below.

Adding an Interior Pocket (measures about 6.5” tall x 8.5”


wide)
The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.
To adjust the width of your pocket add or omit chains from the foundation chain until the
desired width is achieved. To adjust the height of the pocket repeat or omit row 2 as
many times as necessary until the desired height is achieved.

With an H/5 mm hook, chain 25 or any number of chains until your foundation chain
measures about 8.5” long, turn

Row 1: hhdc in the second chain from hook and in each chain
to the end of the row, turn (24)

Row 2: ch 1, hhdc in the same stitch and in each stitch to the


end of the row, turn (24)

Repeat row 2 until the piece measures 6.5” tall.


Fasten off and leave a long tail for attaching the pocket to
the inside of the bag.

Turn the bag so the wrong side is facing. Position the


pocket on the bag so it is centered under the snap. Working in the stitches on the wrong
side of the bag only, sew the pocket onto the bag with a tapestry needle or using your
preferred method (see photos below).
