MTH101(CACULAS ANS ANALYTICAL

GEOMETRY)
• ASSIGNMENT NO # 01

• QUESTION NO: 01 MARKS=5

• SOLVE THE LENIAR INEQUALITY AND EXPRESS

THE SOLUTION SET IN INTERVAL NOTATION 2x-
5<7.
SOLUTION:
2x-5<7
By adding +5 into both sides.
2x-5+5<7+5
2x<12
By dividing both sides with 2.
x<6
Which is a boundary for given inequality note that x=0 is a free
boundary not these nor divided real line into different regions as,

For region A:
Put x= -1
2x-5<7
2(-1)-5<7
-2-5<7
-7<7
Which is true.
For region B:
Put x=1
2(1)-5<7
2-5<7
-3<7
Which is true.
For region C:
Put x=7
2(7)-5<7
14-5<7
9<7
Which is false.
Hence given inequality is
(-∞,0] µ [0,6)
(-∞,6)

QUESTION NO: 02 (MARKS=05)

DETERMINED THE DOMAIN OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE
TWO FUNCATIONS,

F(x)= √x
g(x)=2x+1
SOLUTION:
To determine the domain of the composition f(g(x) or (fog)(x) for the
given functions f(x)= √x and g(x)=2x+1, follow these steps:

• Find the domain of g(x)

Since g(x)=2x+1, its linear function and it is defined for all real
numbers. These are no restrictions on the domain of g(x).
• Find the values of x for which f(g(x) is defined:

The composition f(g(x)) is given by f(g(x)) = √2x+1 for this

expression to bs defined, the argument of the square root must be non-
negative i.e 2x+1≥0
Solve for x
2x+1≥ 0
2x ≥ -1
X ≥ -1/2
• Combine the conditions:
The domain of the composition is the intersection of the domain of g(x)
and the values of x for which f(g(x)) is defined of f(g(x) is x ≥ -½
In summary, the domain of the composition of f(g(x)) for f(x)= √x ,
g(x)=2x+1 is x ≥ -½
